Still thinking about my next ebike project :p

I was considering building a much lighter set up. This would be based on simple fixed wheel 700c original bike weighing just over 10kgs.

By dropping down to 24volt I could use a lighter 24volt 10ah battery which would only wiegh 2.3kgs. I might be able to keep the whole thing to around 15kgs.

I like the idea of still using a Tongxin motor if I could actually source a 24 volt 100mm wide one

Apart from only having pedal assistance, rather than raw power of my existing Alien 36V kit  , would there be any other penalties or for the larger wheel would I HAVE to use a 36v motor ?

Regards

Jerry

In a mighty feat of thread resurrection I would like to ask you if you went ahead with this project? I am in just about exactly the same frame of mind and am considering an Alien 24v kit for, strangely enough, a 10Kg 700c fixed wheel bike.

My suspicion is that 24v will be perfectly fine and encourage a bit more of an attacking style at the pedals. I want to run a slightly higher gear than normal and use the assistance to mitigate otherwise knee-popping climbs. I am not after particularly high speeds.

If I am totally honest I am hoping that it might offend some hipster fixie fashionistas and cause them to drone on about 'losing the purity, man' or suchlike.
