Hello and Seasons greetings to all. Just thought I would add something as could be of interest to anyone with a Halfords Connect ebike!
Back in the summer I purchased a Connect ebike from a friend who had bought it at an auction and never got round to getting it up and working. The bike was in reasonable condition but in need of brake cables, rear brake shoes, tyres and most importantly a 24v battery!
Firstly I tested the electrics and all was fine then renewed all the above except the battery.
After lots of research on the net I decided to try a 36v 4ah li ion battery (24v stock!) Seeing as I had a cordless lawn mower battery that I had been using on a previous project, I had read that some of the Chinese speed controllers could handle extra voltage so I bit the bullet and tried it!
UREEKA it works!! as I mention the battery is from lawn mower so I designed and 3D printed a mount that now bolts to where there are water bottle mounts are on the top of the frame.
So all I can say is that this conversion has now been working for several months without any problems or overheating of motor or ESC , I have added a thumb throttle as well but to be honest I use it on peddle assist lowest setting as in medium and high settings has it pulling like a train and hits the speed limiter easily!
so firstly if anyone’s thinking about trying this it’s up to you and your decision!! So if it all goes up in smoke don’t blame me but all I will say it has worked for me faultlessly and the bike is in use most days incidentally I have a hybrid diamond frame bike with a Cyclotricty front 250w conversion and a KMX Kobra trike with a Bafang bbs01 conversion but the Connect is now my every go to workhorse so guess that tells you what I think of it Happy Ebiking

For anybody that needs to replace a 24v battery on an ebike, I'd always recommend upgrading to 36v. That might mean upgrading the controller too, but that gives you the opportunity to upgrade the whole control system to make your bike much nicer. I've done several 36v upgrades for various people, and everyone of them said that they couldn't believe how much better their bike was.

Look out for very cheap used 24v Chinese bikes on Ebay with knackered batteries. A 36v battery and decent controller with LCD costs about £220.

Hi, the only thing to note is on my particular system I can’t see where the speed limiter is so I may well change the ESC and also I have to check the battery level on the battery as the controller is set up for a 24v battery and if left to the cut out it will potentially damage the battery and take it below minimum voltage!

Also, the cut-off voltage in your controller will be too low for a 36v battery, so there's a danger of damaging the battery if you run it right down.

Update! I have just ordered a new 36/48 volt selectable Speed controller with programmable LCD display so will report on this upgrade when installed and tested and will post the link.
