I have decided to take the plunge and buy a Btwin tribal 3 road bike. It will be a big test to see how much fitter my Agattu has made me and whether I can complete some of the 20/30 mile rides in similar times. I intend to pick it up tonight. I doubt whether my Agattu will be up for sale though as I like it too much.

Looks great Mick, and judging by what I just read about it, shown below, it sounds ideal for this attempt:

"This is the perfect Road Bike for occasional Road Cycling. This Road Bike will prepare you for ascending gentle types of slopes on the road. A very comfortable ride for outings for an entry level Road Cyclist. The Triban 3 is an aluminum frame - it is ideal for any Cyclist who wants to start Road Racing. Outings on the Triban 3 should be between 30 to 60km, this Road Bike has 24 speeds. And racing biking becomes accessible to all. The Triban 3 is a pleasant bike for beginners".

You'll need to make some allowances for the energy sapping heat forecast for next week though, so take it easy at first and take a drinks bottle with you.

Hey Mick, that's the company that I was asking about regarding the helmets. I would be interested to know what you think about your dealing with Decathalon/BTwin and what you think of the quality. It looks like a very elegant peice of equipment. Enjoy!

I looked at several on line cycling forums and the consensus is that its a £1000 bike for £300,thats why I went for it. I reserved one in Stockport, went to pick it up and with help from the guy at the store decided that I needed the next size up, which they hadn't got. I have now ordered correct size on line for tues/wed delivery.
It has two bottle holders Flecc, one for the SIS energy drink....and the other for the Guiness !
Countryman, they were helpful in sore and they could have let me walk out with the one which was too small...but they didn't...and I got to try them up and down in store.
Jackhandy....big question is will it be a road rocket with me sat on it.......mmmmmm
I will try to take some pics when it arrives
