A strange thing...

I was out on the bike today and other than the horrendous winds nothing was amiss. I got home and stuck the bike in the garage. 30 minutes later the tyre was completely flat. I've blown it up and it seems to be staying up. There is nothing showing as sticking in the tyre. An hour later and it's still at the same pressure. It's a puzzler.

Obviously I'll be buying a new tube but it's got me beat.

As usual, I blame the Tories. ;)

If there was a slight dirt contamination on the valve seal surface, a bump on the journey may have produced enough pressure wave disturbance to have set up a tiny air leakage path.

Repumping could easily have blown clear the contamination, leaving the pressure intact.

I had a similar thing on my bike. The tyre suddenly went nearly flat. I found that a spoke was broken and assumed that it had poked through the tube.
This was not so. The tube was fine. I had a new spoke fitted and have used the tube for 6 months with no sign of it leaking.

This happened to me twice

In my case it turned out a thief was"marking" bikes to steal later under cover of darkness hoping owners would leave them overnight a fix next day assuming a puncture.

This was in my employers underground swipe card accessed car park during a week when the shutters broke down

Several bikes were stolen

Well it's still up. No broken spokes and no thieves in my garage. Hopefully Flecc is right. Time will tell.

£10 says it goes flat when I'm out tomorrow. ;)

I was more thinking if you'd locked it up whilst out and about rather than in your garage !

Is it a Schrader valve?

Tiny bits of grit in the top of the valve can cause odd deflation behaviour.

If you have a Schrader valve key, unscrew the core, refit and inflate again.
