I am told that most geared hub motors have clutches so the hub will turn freely when not powered. Does anyone know whether the AKM-100CST Cassette 36V250W from topbikekit.com has a clutch? I have tried asking Topbikekit but I am not convinced they have understood me.

Thanks

Yes it has, as all geared hubs do.
The AKM hubs have a higher gear ratio then a lot of major producers like Bafang. Mxus or kit suppliers like Yose (Bafang hubs) etc, etc. In my view the AKM hub I have is much better to ride unassisted then the above hubs I have.

Hello,

The AKM-100CST motor, recommended controller and throttle arrived. I've got it on a trueing stand but the most I can get out of the motor 250rpm with a 36v battery. I should get 328rpm.

Don't have display.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I've put a magnetic on the hub and I have a counting meter. After 60 seconds 250 is displayed on the meter. I also noticed that the motor gets to maximum speed on about half throttle.

Thanks

There isn't a speed limit wire on the controller, I checked.

Is it likely the controller has a default 250rpm limit? I've read I might need a display to change the default setting.

BMS have been known to get their labelling wrong.
I and a few others bought the Q128C/AKM 128c with a 201rpm winding which should be about 15 /16mph but in use it was capable of 19/20 so in fact was a 250/260 rpm winding.

The controller doesn't affect RPM of the hub, only the watts output depending on the amperage. Voltage does, If you run it at 48v you will see a 33% speed increase over 36v.
