"the sit bones and pubic bones are suspended in mid-air, with the fleshier sides of the buttocks absorbing the rider's weight over a wider area."
... and some are wider than others :p ... wonder if you wind up with a saddle-shaped imprint on said buttocks around the sit & pubic bones when you get off the bike

I am afraid that that center section, will offer the rider a free non NHS rectal examination...

the ischia or sitting bones, are natures way of supporting the weight of the upper body

At least you won't get a wet bum when you leave your bike out in the rain.

This year I've been on a quest to find a saddle that stays bearable beyond 20 miles:eek:
Fortunately after a few false starts, I found that my local bike shop & Specialised have a 28 day money back guarantee. Two returns and third times a charm, Specialised Milano

This one I couldn't bring myself to try it

You're Milano is not dissimilar to the Bioflex one I use

I've found it very comfortable on longer rides - 53 miles the furthest so far (in one go!)

"An end to the dreaded numb bum?"

My **** !! :)D)

Edit - very modest software, turned a perfectly good English 4 letter word meaning 'bum' into asterisks.

Gringo, take a look at Selle saddles.
Been there, done that :p
The Milano works well for me
I know men and there saddles can be difficult to match.
I've found the really soft comfortable saddles good for up to 10 miles or so, Much more than that & chaffing becomes a problem. The other end of the scale, racier saddles way to hard and my sit bones go num almost straightaway.

keep up the duble entendres

Am enjoying the humour as much as the info. :)
Would have thought the flesh would get pinched tween bone and seat if one truly sat on the 'sit' bones? Might it be more likely one sits on ones Gluteous Maximus, the largest muscles in the body! And their flexing movement prevents numbness or pain?
Horn of ordinary saddle can go too, too close to the, ahem, Crown Jewels.
Cheers, Mikey

"Gluteous Maximus....
Father to a murdered son, Husband to a murdered wife, Commander of the Army of the North, and any household jobs required, so long as I don't bag my jeans":p

What underwear are you using?

I've found ordinary cotton pants grip and bunch when riding which causes discomfort over more than a few miles.

Lycra cycle shorts prevent this.

I use mine as underpants and wear ordinary shorts or jogging bottoms over them.

Not entirely but they do help a lot  for me, as I pile on the miles (20 to 40) were moving away from num bums to a bigger unspoken male cycling problem:(
For an issue that we men are reluctant to discuss, there are many products out there that help relieve the discomfort, but it's not often we talk about what we rub on our sacks  before we set out on a ride.
Udder butter, bag balm, crotch cream or try sudocrem

The ultimate in comfort, you can wear jeans or what ever you like no chaffing or wedgies, of couse you may need to replace your bike to get the comfort :)

Now that's something I'd like to try:cool: ( given some open roads )
While driving to work some mornings I occasionally see one coming the opposite way down a fast hill, he's probably doing 25+mph but it's a 40 limit and there's always a queue of irate drivers behind him looking for a chance to overtake.
Most of my cycling is on single track and gated roads, same sort of problem if I was to meet one of those darned infernal cars
