I think you have summed it up very well. No matter what the replacement battery costs, the cost of running an E-bike over ten years will be the same.

...unless of course, the machine in question is powered by BionX. :eek:

Don't forget, as long as you get a bike with a non-intelligent battery, i.e. no CAN-bus or data-logging, you can replace the battery with any battery that you can fit on your bike. The ones that log data worry me, because that's what some laptops do, and then they switch off permanently after a fixed number of charge cycles supposedly for safety even though there's nothing wrong. If you've got one of those typical behind the seat-post batteries, you can empty it and use it to keep your tools/waterproofs in, and fit a bottle battery instead, or a rack battery like this.
