Having just aquired a cheap old ebike for use as spares i have since changed my mind and will use it for fun instead. I think that the hub motor may be a brushed type - how can i find out without dismantling? Also the location of the controller and can i increase it's power from 24v to 32v without getting silly and spending £100's. It's an old Coaster brand mountain bike (weigh's a fair bit but still fun). Can you still get spares for this bike or will i be making parts fit from other cycles?

All the best - and thanks for any help.

Count the the number of wires into the motor, brushless will have 8 (3 for power and 5 for the hall effect sensors). Brushed will have 2 wires.
