correct technique for tightening crank bolts, remove said crank or chainwheel, you need appropriate crank remover tool,clean crank and spindle with a degreaser, refit crank, tighten crank bolt till it is firm, then remove bolt again,give a light tap with a mallet or hammer and scrap of wood, reinsert bolt then tighten then nip up.
The reason to do this is to make sure that the crank is firmly seated, when you tap home the crank it makes sure it is firmly engaged, better for it to be too tight than just tight enough!
It is customary to return a bike to dealer if bought from a LBS for them to check it over after a 100 miles or so, for them to check every thing is tight and adjusted, thus this may be why you are getting noises !
