I am wondering if any members have any knowledge of problems occurring with the Bosch drive....other than the myth of chewing its own sprockets and internal gearing that is

I just have had a quote from Germany for a 2013 KTM machina, delivered to front door for the equivalent of £2k exactly, although the website price is 2700 eu...this model probably has the new HMI unit, with or without a USB!

as a purchase would mean no warranty for practical reasons, I am just casting around a bit to see if I should open my eyes to potential Bosch type pit falls

I imagine I could box up and return to sender, but for local attention, I don't know how international any Bosch/KTM warranty might be

on the other hand if the electrics are bullet proof I am not worried about the oily bits

I know of no problems, but think the way in which it's been adopted by so many diverse bike manufacturers is the best possible reference for a likely trouble free ownership. No bike company wants after-sales problems with it's products or to incur such problems for it's dealers.

for issues you need to look on pedelec forrum..I dont think you will see anything of major concern. obviously easier to purchase here as it will be suppliers problem if things go wrong. while I would risk £1000-£1400 or so on one of the sales bikes advertised from dealers on german bay. I dont see a big saving of the bike you have chosen. they do it with 11 speed alfina as well....new 11 ah out as well

worth a call around for whatever you fancy and ask fora cheeky price match. not as if they have demo bike in stock to try!

The AVE bikes are good? same price here as in Germany from what I have seen. mine was when I bought it....

Barry,KTM have a UK distributor who should honour any warranty, albeit via your retailer. Remember all the arguments with cars about UK dealers not honouring grey imports but they were forced to.

thanks for the re-assurance Dave, but I imagine that any imported bike problems would be met by a stony stare....on the other hand, if Bosch pay the service folk for warranty work, then every body should be happy-ish

I have considered the Alfine 11 speed Eddie, but it sort of adds potential complications, and I imagine that 9 well spaced gears are quite enough as long as the lowest is a twiddler, (for those flat battery moments)...and I am still not too convinced on the 26 versus 29er arguement

interestingly, I have emailed local suppliers to find out availability, (other than website promises), but have had no replies...

on the other hand, and email to a German/Austrian supplier is replied to almost in a heartbeat....I must admit this brings a lot of confidence re the supplier

You would be better to call around rather then email
