Hi

I am considering buying a cradle to mount my Iphone on my bike(s). There is seemingly a bewildering array of choices (with prices to match)

I need a solution that is easily transferable between my bikes, which includes a non electric racer with very thick bars.

Can anyone recommend a solution?

Thanks in advance,

Nick

A decent smartphone makes an excellent cycle computer, an equivalent which is just for cycling would probably cost a couple of hundred quid.

Yes, I should have said for use as a gps/cycle computer. The phone itself will be in "airplane mode"

£3 solution

Here's my £3 solution. It was an old $3 crystal case which was already broken. I reinforced and modified using about 10 pence worth of Polymorph low-temperature plastic. Polymorph is great stuff.. It melts at 60 degrees C so you can mould it with your hands, but when it sets again at around 40C it's tough as anything. I have a little mini-blowtorch which has a hot air blower function, so I just keep heating bits and changing them until it's all the right shape.

Phone sits right in the middle of the headstock..

I included a releasable cable tie to make it easy to take off/on. Because the phone is only held at the sides, it is still OK to slide the screen up/down to get at the buttons as normal

It's a bit ugly when you see it without the phone..

Phone has never yet fallen out.

For the avoidance of doubt, I will restate.
I do not wish to make phone calls, the phone will be in airplane mode. An Iphone functions brilliantly as a hi tech cycle computer, giving you sat nav, elapsed time, height, inclines, calories burned, etc etc

The whole kit weighs in at a featherweight 90g (3 oz). It comes with attachment brackets and connectors, plus an English fitting and operation manual and a year's warranty. It's also CE, RoHS and FCC certified. Both the touch sensitive console and braking detector are patented.
