I've owned a few Raleigh bikes since my first Tomahawk many years ago  An original i must add, not that new one they sell ;)
Although i've not actually ridden any of their models for the past 15 years, i remember that they seemed solid and reliable.
The latest bikes seem to be fairly reasonably priced.
My question is, are they still a worthy investment?
I'm looking for a good basic MTB bike, with front suspension only, around the £200 mark. This is going to be kitted up over the year ready for next summer.
If Raleigh have gone pants, then any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Buy a Raleighulike;) Sorry I couldn't resist that. I assume you mean a non electric MTB? If that is the case, they are much like any other manufacturer in that you get what you pay for, no better and no worse than other similarly priced bikes. Sorry to be so vague:eek:

By the way my son started out on a Tomahawk, he thought it was the bees knees, 20+ years later he rides a Kalkhoff.

My last bike was a Raleigh P4000, it was an excellent bike for commuting and I did over 8,000 miles in 6 years. This was the era when the all British Raleigh bikes were made in Taiwan!: At today's prices I think you would need to double your budget to get a good basic bike. The bikes in this price range will be lighter and be fitted with reliable parts.:) If I had a Raleigh bike shop near me I would have bought another Raleigh, but my local Raleigh dealer closed down:mad::confused:
With a fair bit of research, luck in finding the Pedelec Forum and receiving fantastic guidance from Flecc I took the chance on changing to Kalkhoff. The decision was one of the best moves I ever made.:D

Here is an original pic of the 40 year old Raleigh I am currently restoring/updating to use as a daily short trip runabout.

Its actually a Raleigh Moulton MK3. Suspension front and back with 16" wheels.

Blimey, that takes me back.
I had one of those! Unfortunately I have to say I hated it - it was an image problem for a teenager......couldn't wait till I could afford a "proper" bike (i.e. 10 spd racer - the 'ultimate' for a teenager of the era :D ).
Brings back some happy memories though :) .

Phil I will post some pics later showing what I have done to it. Set up with light alloy parts its quite a hot rod.

I seem to be going through a small wheel fetish at the moment
