Hello All,
As I am off today on friday about to go to London for a wedding I thought I would take the oppertunity to open up the Sunlova battery. You do need some tamperproof tools though with the triangle head's. These I brought on Amazon or £10 for a set of 4.

Anyway as I have been monkeying about with LIPO I thought I'd find out the reason why the sunlova battery was not charging. Anyway turns out there are two PCB's. One that basically has connections from the outershell to BMS, and then the actual BMS to cells. Figuring i would need a new BMS I had Sunlova send me one out for the grand cost of £5 inc P&P. They still prove very helpful for kit builders and spares.

Anyway its not the BMS that was the problem but a short circuited charge point on the PCB. I plan on replacing it ASAP.

However for others with the kit I thought I'd pos a few pictures on the inners...

And the Problem...

Hi Scottyf

Thats really useful thank you:) I'm on my 4th sunlova battery now and as none of them lasted longer then a few months I didn't want to open them because they were still in warranty.

Its great to see the batteries all laid out. I had always assumed that the lithium was in sheets and not in cylindrical form.

When the newest battery finally goes I could imagine using the casing again to house a home made version.

Cheers

John

Thanks for the info Scott. I'm 6 months in to my Sunlova battery. It's been the best battery I've had by a long way but I don't want to jinx it. I'm also surprised that they look like a load of AA batteries. I'd always assumed they would be bigger.

There quite a bit larger than the as batteries. Using the reference on the PDF they are 18650. Which relates to their physical size of being 18mm radius by 65mm
