I wonder if any of you experienced cyclists could help me please. I have purchased a used bicycle similar in every respect to this bike. [http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HIGHQUALITY-STANDARD-CYCLE-DESIGN-ELECTRIC-BIKE-BICYCLE_W0QQitemZ130178551795QQihZ003QQcategoryZ33503QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem[/URL] After about one mile of both pedal assisted and unassisted power there is a smell of electrical burning eminating from the on/off key area (top) of the battery. The battery casing does not apperar to be getting even warm and has charged ok, it does not seem to be losing capacity quickly, infact it is holding it's charge longer than I anticipated. Whilst cycling the battery seems to provide enough power both on the straight and up hills. I am assuming it is a 3x12v battery as it is very heavy. I am a total novice so any advise would be apperciated.

It's going to be impossible to say with any certainty without a physical examination what exactly is wrong.

Possibilities are a poor connection in the current carrying electrical path, a wire partially shorting, or a minor component like the switch failing under the current loading.

You need someone with electrical skills who is prepared to examine it and possibly solve the problem.

First check for a local Powabyke dealer, since those bikes have similar electrical systems and they may help. Here's the dealer finder link. If no success, check for auto electricians in your area, you may find a friendly one who is at least prepared to have a quick look at it, alternatively a small garage or motor cycle shop.
