Bike got soaked and went a bit funny...

Evening, e-riders!

I wonder if you could give me a bit of advice. My little chinese folder got a terrible drenching in a storm on a trip to Yorkshire at the weekend. Then when I switched on, there were just two dim LEDs lighting on the handlebar controller, but after a few minutes everything came on again. Zee bike is now working fine, except that the power on-off button is dodgy. When you turn it off, the power sometimes comes on again by itself almost immediately. I can still turn the bike on and off still, using the battery key. Is it likely to return to normal as it dries out completely, do you think?

You have water in that display thing with the on/off switch. If it has aby screws in it, open it to let it dry out.

Thanks so much for your speedy reply, d8v! I've found two Phillips screws under the labels at the back, so I'll give it a dry out. I've never had the bike drenched like that before, but I was camping in Dent, and it got left for a couple of hours in a torrential downpour before I could get back to it.

A bit of silicone sealant or similar might prevent it happening again.

I was in my static caravan in North Yorkshire at the same time as the OP.

They do rain very well here, but it was as heavy as I've seen it.

The bike's done well if the only damage is a soggy display.

JOKETIME! If you ever feel a bit cold, stand in the corner of a room. It's usually around 90 degrees there!

I keep a couple of zip lock bags and a velcro tie in my bag for very heavy downpours, so I can cover up the display if it's particularly wet.

I have goretex over clothes but I now carry a sort of Pac a Mac from decathlon. It's like a big baggy poncho/cape and covers the handlebars and my controller /battery insidw the triangle. (As well as me obviously!)

It is excellent.for those truly mad downpours for extra electric protection.

It came from decathlon but I've had it for at least 8 years. No idea if still available

Thanks for all the tips, guys and gals! I think my handlebar display is finally back to normal now. I must remember to put my bike cover in place when camping.

This will make you laugh - when I go canoeing I put my mobile phone in one of those titchy click-top plastic food containers from ASDA. Just the right size, and it even floats if it falls in zee water!
