Hi
I currently have a Scott Aspect 29er tour which is about 18 months old. Initially I was considering a kit - hadn't chosen one so went to a local shop who is trying to sell me a bike rather than one of their BIONX kits...hmm

Having that that, I do like the look of spec of the KTM e cross p or tour. However could I do better by converting my Scott?

I went out on a test ride on a Bosch equipped bike and a rear hub bike...not sure what either were though.

I felt the Bosch ran out of gears quickly (8) and worried about it being a little restricted off e power. The rear Hub was a tour bike and felt comfy but can't put my finger on why I didnt like it.

I fancy a run on a KTM with panasonic set up and circa 30 gears.

However spending £2500 gives me a bit of a challenge...should I make a decent bike out of my own by adding a kit (recommendations?), or taking the plunge and spending at least £1000 more.

I'm sure others on here had similar dilemas so I'd love to hear your experience and why you took the plunge on your chosen stead?

thanks

Paul

I'd fit a BPM CST kit with a square bottle battery 36V 15AH Samsung 2900mAH cells to your Scott Aspect - it's not better than KTM e cross p but about same in term of pulling power. Total cost about £550-£600.

Where abouts in the UK are you? We can send an eCross p to your local dealer for you to try.

And they are £2049, so not quite £2500 :)

Cheers

Hi col I'm in swindon. I believe emotion are a supplier.
Can you also confirm the differences (apart from the obvious mudguards and lights and frame options on the style) between the e tour and e style compared to the e cross?
I have a brochure but it's in German! I can't find anything about them.
Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul.

Thats good - eMotion have been a great dealer for us and sold lots of KTM's with both Bosch and Panasonic drives. They also sell a good number of other brands so can give you unbiased advice.

The eStyle P, and eCross P are very similar bikes. The mudguards, lights and the full step though frame option that come on the eStyle P are the only key differences between the two models.

essentially, the eCross P is designed to be able to handle light offroad - ie canal paths, forest trails and some of the less well maintained roads we all know and love. Whilst the eStyle P, with its lights, mudguards etc is more of a city bike.

Both have the same wheel size, so the tyre options are the same.

Cheers

Thanks col. Do you still do the tour? Assume that's more like the e style?
When can you get a cross to emotion?

If your going to get a bike with motor in the hub then a kit will be cheap and easy( comparatively ). If you want a sleek crank drive then mucho money to compare to your Scott. And not easy to home build either.
Your decide money or effort to build? And what do you want out at the other end.

Hi, no I'm afraid the eTour never made it to production.

All our eCross P bikes are currently out with dealers / press. However I'll speak to Louise at our place who manages the demo fleet, because we should be able to pull one back and get it to eMotion pretty quickly. I'll get on that first thing in the morning.

I'll message you with details once I know what we can do.

Regards
Col.

Try other hub geared bikes before buying, buy in haste repent at leisure ,a good kit on your own bike (cycleezee or a bafang bpm or cst kit), would be far cheaper and offer at least the same performance, and far more options for tailoring speed distance throttle etc.to your specific needs.if you do buy a complete bike, post your scott in the classifieds,i am sure somebody will make a great bike out of it for less than £600.
