Hi.
Just looking at the website of Cycle Heaven in York and noticed some significant reductions in the price of BionX kits. Price point, in my opinion, was always launched at too high a level.

If it carries on like this it will be cheaper to buy a new kit rather than a replacement battery!

Nope it's a valid concern. Old bike old battery = less life.

But i think you knew that.

I believe the batteries do not start aging until first activation, but not 100% certain. I have said this a hundred times on this forum, the cheapest way to buy a bionx kit is to buy the Trek FX and strip it off. The base bike is a decent Trek FX used to be much higher base bike when i bought mine. The motor is a 350HT so must be software controlled. Import a bionx console from the states and you have the full power and throttle. The battery can be found cheaper with a bit of searching. You can have a full 350HT spec kit after selling the base bike for about £1000 if you get the bike in a sale.

Wouldn't the normal quality control procedures activate the battery? Or at least putting it on the bike for shipping? I know that when my bike arrived the battery was partially charged

They may well be like the Panasonic batteries with the sleep mode....Obviously worth checking out. I was very keen on these at one time but was kinda advised out of it on here based mainly on price, but I seem to remember that they aren't that great hill climber or am I wrong on that....

some lovely looking Focus bikes out with this system though, and its certainly still the best looking kit around

There direct drive thought so for any given wattage results in lower torque.
Still I'm sure its quality makes up for it.

I'd only ever be interested in the motor but its a better deal for what is generally a very expensive kit.
