Perhaps a rear projected red laser image could also be beneficial ?

I think we've had this one before Jasper. It's another great idea, but I wouldn't trust my life to it. A Cree T6 XML light will project a beam of white light onto the road to show your presence, and at least you'll be able to see where you're going and stop drivers from pulling out and cutting across you.
