I thought the argument for the clock change was because of the benefit of starting the day early with the summer time clock.
In Great Britain that's somewhat historic for farming food productivity reasons.

Parliament has debated changing to single time on many occasions but the major objection has long been that of the Scots with their shorter daylight hours in their much more northerly position.

Of course if they gain independence as the SNP wish, we in Britain (England and Wales) could then go it alone with BST only.

Regardless of the Brexit outcome, it would be wise to make plans which remove as much reliance on the French as possible. As a nation, they are an oily & treacherous collection of turncoats with a deep rooted sense of national shame. This makes it impossible to rely on them under any circumstances. I think it is the shame and embarrassment they feel for their behaviour over the past 100 years which makes them so untrustworthy. They have twice surrendered their nation to aggression, with hardly any resistance, and been complicit in helping their masters, the invading German army, to round up and send their own French Jewish citizens to a certain death. Fast forward a few decades and it’s now like the French posses a collective national “little man syndrome” which sees them trying to assert themselves through acts of treachery, duplicity and spitefulness. A bad lot to place trust in.
I know Tillson, the French have this habit of placing their own interests first, whatever the circumstances.

A pity we hadn't done the same more often, such as in not starting World War 2.

Well ending the GMT BST clock change is nonsense. If we stuck to GMT it would be light at 02:30 hrs in the morning and dark at 20:30 hrs during June. What use is that? The change is necessary because of where the country happens to be located on the surface of the planet. It’s pointless interference by the EU in specific national issues such as GMT which does them no favours in terms of image.
With these things it is so very easy to see our own situation and not that of others.

For me, sunrise 04:00 sunset 20:42 (GMT) on 21 June 2019. But it doesn't actually get dark until well after sunset. That would be fine by me. More chance of it being dark at bed-time!

Did you miss the bit that said: allowing member states to opt out of changing their clocks ?

Which strikes me as the opposite of interference by the EU.

A little humour to lighten the day
"
Donald Trump denies report about him using iPhones in tweet sent from an iPhone"

So now we can change the old saying to update it

"He may look like an idiot and talk like an idiot
But don't let that fool you
He can Tweet like an idiot on an I phone too!"

Truly if we hadn't had the vote for Brexit in this country, I would have been inclined to believe that no Nation on Earth would be so misguided as to vote for so unlikely an idiot and for that matter idiotic a cause as Brexit.

The only rational explanation is that either Putin or the Chinese have perfected a Steathy and silent Weapon of Mass stupidity and deployed it against our two nations

Didn't liam Fox do well?
Bloomberg Brexit‏Verified account @Brexit

Liam Fox's plan to swiftly replicate the EU's terms with the World Trade Organization has failed. Now Britain must enter what are likely to be lengthy talks with other members on basic conditions of trade after Brexit:

International Trade Secretary Liam Fox said his plan to quickly normalize the U.K.’s World Trade Organization commitments had failed, forcing the government to enter into what will likely be lengthy negotiations with other members on basic terms of trade after Brexit.

It’s a significant blow to the U.K., which was proposing to replicate the European Union’s current WTO trade terms after it leaves the bloc. Without certified WTO commitments on market access and tariffs, it’s still possible for the U.K. to trade but could make it more difficult to strike new trade deals -- which are a key rallying cry among Brexit supporters.

In a written statement to Parliament Thursday, Fox said several WTO members “expressed reservations” about the U.K.’s plan to copy-and-paste the EU’s international trade commitments. His letter didn’t specify which countries opposed the approach or include the justification for their objections.

“This was expected and does not impact our ability to trade independently,” a spokesman for the U.K.’s department of trade said in an emailed statement. “The terms we have set out will form the basis of our trade policy while we engage with our WTO partners to address their concerns.”

This month, the U.S., New Zealand and more than a dozen major agricultural exporters said they opposed the U.K.’s approach, which called for Britain and the EU to split their current tariff rate quota commitments that set import limits on sensitive goods such as beef, lamb and sugar.

The opposing countries said that would harm their ability to sell goods to Europe.

‘Uncharted Territory’
Fox said the U.K. will now pursue a modification of its WTO commitments under Article 28 of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade -- which can be a laborious and lengthy process that could delay for years the U.K.’s ability to have a certified set of WTO commitments.

“This is uncharted territory for them,” New Zealand Trade Minister David Parker said in an interview on the sidelines of a WTO ministerial meeting in Ottawa, adding that it was the right decision for the U.K. to invoke the Article 28 process. “We’ll engage in that to protect our interests. We are confident it will have a fair outcome given the undertakings that have already been made by Liam Fox. No one should be worse off as a consequence.”

Though the U.K. is a WTO member in its own right, its schedule of concessions -- which reflect tariff commitments and terms relating to trade in goods and services -- are established in the European Communities’ schedule.

For Fox sake, just go where you can do no more harm, there's a good chap

And here is what Putin must regard as the ising on the cake.
In the process of "Taking back control"

NEW: Russia has launched an formal objection to the UK's bid to fix its tariff schedules at the WTO - presenting a much longer and harder path for Liam Fox's team.

We seem to have failed to do so, so that helpful Mr Putin decided as we can't take back control .
We have gifted him the opportunity .

Vladimir Putin's investment in vote leave has bought him the right to
put the boot in!

Now it has to be remembered that these quotas are set by concensus, but I'm not sure if that can really help as far as we are concerned, we are short on friends at the best of times

I think I remember it being Churchill but cannot remember the target.
There are as usual several versions of this truth, this is perhaps one of the more reliable ones
"
The following exchange occurred between Truman and Churchill in March 1946 during a train ride to Fulton, Missouri according to Clifford:

Harry Truman: Clement Attlee came to see me the other day. He struck me as a very modest man.

Winston Churchill: He has much to be modest about.

And yet Attlee achieved election victory over Churchill and achieved wonders in setting the country on the road to recovery after the war
Quite rightly the public voted Churchill out as it didn't trust him to do it.
They were correct in trusting the job to a Socialist Government.

From the Independent
Brexit: ‘Several’ WTO members block Britain's attempt to fast track deal
International trade secretary's plan "now in tatters", head of Commons trade committee says
The US and China are reportedly among 20 countries attempting to block Britain from agreeing a fast-track deal with the World Trade Organisation (WTO) on its post-Brexit terms of trade with the rest of the world.

Liam Fox, the international trade secretary, admitted several WTO members had “expressed reservations” about the government’s plan to stay on terms similar to those it still enjoys as a member of the European Union (EU).

Britain is a full member of the WTO, but its membership is bound up with the EU, meaning it has to come to an independent agreement with the trade body.

Whitehall is now facing a series of separate negotiations with countries over the limits on the amount of certain goods which will be allowed into Britain, and what tariffs the UK will set on imports.
“As expected, some trading partners have expressed reservations about our proposed treatment of tariff rate quotas,” Dr Fox said in a written statement to the commons.

Note the deliberate lie
This opposition was NOT expected, was it?

Note the use of the term which is somehow meant to say something other than competitors, enemies, and - simply - most other countries.

Partner should be a positive word. It is being used to obfuscate.
That is of course making the assumption that Conservatives know the true meaning of the word!
Somehow I seriously doubt the level of understanding they employ on an everyday basis.

Any of you folks watch the Mash report last night with Nish Kumar, if you missed it you can down load it on the BBC I player. If you are a Trump supporter and or a Brexitier you will hate it but if not you will enjoy it.

Hammond is due to offer small businesses rates relief,it should apply to all high street businesses ,big or small.
But it’s too little, too late. The big problem is not the rent or rates it’s the vat fraud on Amazon and EBay,HMRC have the power to prosecute these illegal traders but so far have not acted on a single trader.
Also the abuse of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) by Hong Kong parcel service allow these traders to send small packages HK to U.K. for one penny, that would cost U.K. traders 70p.Sweden has cured the problem by charging minimum £6.00 (75SEK) to handle any non EU packages....Trump is threatening the same from China to the US.

Lots and lots of questions about how it will be implemented - for a start, the devolved countries will be expected to make their own decisions. And just when will it actually reach the retailers?

When did companies stop ethical behaviour? When did one percent of people start deserving more money than they are worth? Since when has "free trade" been free? The poor should pay for the rich because they deserve all the money?

We can debate these and many other questions but until we scrap neo-liberal fantasy economics this will continue. I've been waiting about 30 years for trickle down economics to start trickling, how much longer must we wait for these fantasy economical ideas to actually start working?

But don't worry the UK poor will be saved by brexit. No money at all they will all die - freeze to death because they can't afford heating or starve. Those who aren't over weight, they get to die of type 2 diabetes...
