They always are pretty dreadful.
it was cold and Biden deliberately tried to turn down the volume.
Perhaps the real celebration will start after 100 days when Covid recedes sufficiently.

Last night @allthecitizens found a 1/3rd billion gov contract won by a company linked to Conservative donor Lord Ashcroft. £350m Covid19 award goes to company run by Impellam, where former Tory treasurer has ‘significant interest’.

That's rubbish Flecc. How on earth can anybody not think population density is going to affect a pandemic.??
Because you've misused the data. Sweden like others close to the arctic circle have their population densely packed in the south, so your countrywide figures are invalid. That not how they are living. And in the south as very sociable people they live predominantly in cities and towns, just like us. Their countryside is sparsely populated and their farmi ng is modern with few employees, just like here.

Also Sweden enjoys a higher standard of living and unfortunately as we, ve all become only too aware the poor have suffered most.. Along with our Asian communities. (which represent 8% of our population and 1.8 % of Sweden's)
Of course, because they are socialist country, another example we should follow.

I, ve no idea why you are holding Sweden up as a good example any way. Finland, Norway, and Denmark, all of similar socio economic and geopolitical make up have done far better.
You aren't being objective flecc
It's because I am being objective and you aren't by introducing countries not under discussion. There is relevance to my consistent promotion of the Swedish way for Britain, not for those other three countries. We made a terrible mistake at the outset with Covid in trying for herd immunity, and that left us in a position with valid comparisons to Sweden's lackadaisical "do nothing" approach in their initial outset. But what they've done subsequently has produced results far, far better than ours at every stage and could have done for us too. But obviously not for those other three who started differently.

I doubt Guardian will be putting any spin on it that could see Boris in a better light.
Sweden's strategy failed, they came through it OK for all reasons explained.
They have got through it in spite of their strategy, not because if it.
Totally wrong, as is that Guardian headline. They got through it much, much better than us financially, educationally and in death rate solely because of their strategy. We tried to change course to the so called better strategy and failed miserably with the worlds highest death rate and very many billions of squandered financial future. If they'd followed us they's have been in a terrible mess now,

These are relevant facts, not Sage and others trying to use Sweden as some warped kind of excuse for our awful performance. Sweden has done much, much better in every respect from a very similar bad start to ours and in this subject discussion that is all that matters.

Boris Johnson's press sec Allegra Stratton defends his use of "Captain Hindsight' for Keir Starmer again today - just 24 hours after his plea for "kind and civil language". She tells reporters: "In the PM's opinion, 'Captain Hindsight' is not an unpleasant name"

SO we can keep calling the PM 'Major Dickhead' then.

Re, Sweden - not so

This is a discussion about Britain and Sweden's Covid outcomes, not political popularity.

Well over half our country are very unhappy about our present lot's handling of Covid, they lost patience long ago.

Sweden is doing fine, 24% lower death rate than ours, not the countless billions of our financial future squandered and their kids losing hardly any schooling and with no exam losses. I wish that was us !

The difference being that you are disagreeing with the fact that Sweden had done so much better than us from a similar start.

As I remarked elsewhere, I just wish we'd had Swedens policies since the beginning of last May.

About 22,000 still living instead of now dead, our education hardly disrupted and almost none of those countless billions spent would have been very welcome.

If Jeremy Corbyn was the alternative, yes I would. No doubt about it.

If I had to vote today, I’d probably vote Labour.
Stephen Crabb - our MP - actually voted against the order to abstain - along with five others.

I think he can actually see a bit better than some - and knows he is unlikely to achieve true high office having blotted his copybook. He'd also be very strongly criticised as we have a lot who are struggling down here.

Has Biden croaked already? Watching the BBC coverage you would think Harris had become president.
She's a woman, what else would you expect in this now female biased world.

In their wholly justifiable fight for equality the women have accidentally inverted the western world into a matriarchal one, with males just being an irrelevance to be put up with.

The Swedish government changed its approach to the pandemic last month when it introduced tougher restrictions on social interactions after cases started to rise.1 The soft approach the government had adopted, based on recommendations and voluntary behaviour of citizens, has shifted as cases of infection with SARS-CoV-2 have continued to surge along with hospitalisations and deaths.

This week Prime Minister Stefan Löfven announced that the ban on gatherings of more than eight people would extend to the Christmas holidays, while secondary schools have been told to switch to distance learning for the rest of the term. The government has also asked the parliament to grant it more authority to implement new measures such as closing shopping malls and gyms.

Still doesn't seem as good as you make out - and once the more infectictious strain gets a hold....

I knew all that, much of it threatened but not happened. But it's still almost all much better or certainly no worse than here.

All here tried to persuade me different last year and they were all proven wrong by the current outcome. Hopefully Sweden won't change tack in the way we've done so often to get it wrong each time.

Why don't you all concentrate on our dreadful performance instead of trying to find fault in others who are doing better? It doesn't excuse us.

Worldwide vaccine tracker.
The finding that six doses can be obtained from vial has been reported from the USA some time ago. But I don't know whether they adjusted deliveries at all.

Yep, with a special hypodermic the can get 6 doses out of vial containing 5...All seems rather unscientific tho. What amazes me, this isn't actually a problem with the vaccine, it's problems with vials and how much they hold or production lines. This could/should have been sorted months ago..
