I see the BBC is treating us all to Mrs Brown’s Boys on Christmas Day. If ever there was a crock of shite, this is it. I wish I could cancel my license fee and not watch the BBC.
It's not the Beebs fault, trash TV like Strictly Come Dancing and Mrs Brown's Boys are what the great majority of the UK public demand. If the Beeb don't provide it they watch the alternative trash on ITV instead and the Beeb loses it's reason to exist.

Goodness knows they've tried hard enough to give us quality TV. First they created the second channel BBC2 for that, but not enough watched so they had to pollute that as well. So later they tried the fourth channel for quality in BBC4, but with the same result of only a minority audience not justifying the cost of the channel.

Getting quality TV in a democracy is only possible with a quality public, and that we do not have in large enough measure.

Agreed, I do watch a bit of BBC 4, but that's about it. I think the BBC are wanting to get rid of that for the reasons you state. Low quality public equals low quality television and services.

Surprisingly, I've found Netflix to be reasonably good. They've commissioned some well made and interesting documentary's. They have a good archive of old ones too. There is a lot of American soap type garbage on Netflix, but it's certainly not all bad.

I've managed to avoid paying for any TV so far, other than the return to the licence for OAPs.

Don't go buying any big turkeys.
no shellfish at the fishmongers - the boats don't go out because the restaurants are closed.

Probably didn't go out because they were afraid of being shot up by random gunboats.

Unfortunately, so many documentaries, even when about subjects I really am interested in, are formulated around the:
What is coming up.
Loud music.
Irrelevant visuals.
What has been said.
Repeat aligned round advert intervals (even when shown on a non-commercial channel). With added sprinkling of What is coming up. and What has been said.

Instead of one hour, what they actually deliver is more like five minutes of informative program.

Ends up that I lose concentration and miss even those five minutes!

Looks like Johnson is cancelling Xmas. Its embargoed till 1300 and the press conference is later on.

Don't go buying any big turkeys.
Thank you for the advanced info.

As usual, this government is a day late and a dollar short, again. Everyone I know saw this coming and didn’t want the five day spread-fest anyway. It only seemed to be Good News Guy who was pushing it.

People will have bought food, rented houses and made travel plans now. The announcement won’t be anywhere near as effective as it would have been if Johnson had the balls to make the decision when he should have done.

They quite literally cannot get anything right.

If you want to see a heartwarming, feel good Christmas film as an alternative, try this. Get a copy of Jaws and watch it backwards. It will reveal the story of a shark which give arms and legs to cripples. Much better than Mrs Brown’s Boys.
Can we run the Brexit saga backwards too, then we might be able to make some sense of it! ;)

The last time that happened it was the Imperial Russian Fleet that thought Hull trawlers were Japanese gunboats
After that the Royal Navy escorted them almost all the way to Tsushima bay having accidently tipped off the Japanese where and when they would be there.
The result was that they had seriously bad day

Blankety Blank Christmas Show
Call The Midwife
'stenders (as we tend to all it).

I made the bad assumption people would have looked at the schedules! Sorry.
I do look at the schedules and mark what I want to watch, but those are certainly not included so I'd never recognise the acronyms,

I guess that would be the story of a poor isolated nation with high unemployment and some fish. They would suddenly strike a great trade deal with a massive trading block right on their doorstep. As a result, the poor nation became progressively more wealthy and enjoyed a greater standing in the world.

No, it will never catch on.
