British?

Following on from another thread, I wonder if someone could enlighten me by answering a few rather naive questions?

Is anyone is actually manufacturing or assembling electric bikes in the UK?

Which electric bike companies are British owned and which are foreign owned?

Where are electric bikes actually manufactured apart from China, Taiwan, India, Japan, Hungary, Germany and Switzerland?

If there aren't any then I would love to be part of one. There should be one. If anyone wants to start one then put my name down. Prepared to do anything from sweeping up to electronic data interchange.

My answer to your second question, duplicated here from that other thread:

BH of Spain are manufacturers who actually make one model e-bike, see here

And Cybien of France are just as much manufacturers as most of the German companies, example here

There's more in other countries like Matra, also in France, see here, but I won't go on. ;)

Now that TGA have ceased making the Electrobike, and Viking their friction drive model, the only ones that might rank as British manufacturers are GoCycle and Cytronex.

Thank you Tony,

I knew you would know. I forgot about Spain and France, I also forgot about GoCycle and Cytronex.

Next question, British content?

The most important component of all in the GoCycle is 100% British, the design. As for the physical bits and pieces, I don't know how much is British but know some is German. It's certainly not a Chinese e-bike.

Likewise Cytronex, the design of it's unique control system for use of the Tongxin is British. Although added to existing models, that's little different from some European manufacturers who assemble all Chinese components and have no home grown design element in those parts.

Both the discontinued TGA and Viking bikes were 100% British design and mostly British components too.

Brompton?.
Not yet with the Brompton e-bike, though they've been promising it for ages. Held up by the difficulties Ultra Motor experienced recently, now they are back on course it shouldn't be too much longer.

They are indeed, but the thread question was about e-bikes only. If it were bikes, there's a number of British small scale manufacturers that could be included.
