Hello all,

Today I've noticed I had a broken spokes on my rear wheel. And with other damaged spokes I can't cycle. It's time for me to change all my spokes:

It's a 700cc bike (boardman bike). Is the spoke length on the drive side 290mm and on the non drive side 288mm?

I think it's 14G because I use the little spoke tensioner with 14 written on it.

Where can I find good but cheap spokes to fix it?

Thank you so much

You say 290 mm on the drive side and 288 on the non drive side. I think you have that wrong way round. If it is dished rear wheel with derailleur gear, the short spokes are on the drive side. I have bought spokes from Spokesave and been well happy with them. Spokes are measured from the inside of the bend to the tip of the threaded end. Hook the bend of the spoke over the end of the tape measure, at the side of that movable clip thing, and measure the reading at the other end. Incidentally spokesave only stock limited sizes and recommend using same spoke length on both sides of a dished wheel. I ordered the longer length, in this case it would be 290 mm. Normally when a wheel is built it is common first to tighten all spokes so that just three threads are exposed above the nipple. Compensate for the the fact that all spokes are equal by then tightening all drive side spokes a further four and a half turns, thus shortening them by 2 mm. I started a long thread on wheel building back in I think, last november. Please read it. You will need to make or buy a dishing stick. Good luck and report back.

They don't have 290mm, shall I still get the 288mm or 292mm?

Have a look in the wheel. Where do the ends of the spokes come to? You should be able to see whether it's a problem or not if they're 2mm longer.
