B17 for me and I wouldn't use anything else even without my suspension post.
They aren't for everyone though and can take a few hundred miles to break in, similar to a pair of leather walking boots.
There's no way you can find out if they suit you unless you buy and use one for a while, good news is that you can almost get your money back on ebay if you don't like it and some folk would sooner buy one that's slightly used.
Dave.

I have been bewildered by the array of Brooks's saddles, and which is the best one for me. The saddle on the Delite is a Selle & the most comfortable one I have ridden, but it does seem to tear easily if I am a little clumsy when dismounting. My thoughts are a leather version of the same style would be OK, but would it? Some do seem to have a problem with Brooks.

the one I have looked at is the brooks flyer ,I was talking to a cyclist the other day who had a brooks saddle 20 years old she told me 250miles and it would be broken in, and to treat it with the brooks wax? does the saddle mould to the person?

I use a b17 and I also wouldn't. Use anything else and have tried dozens over the years

I did use the brooks saddle wax stuff . The general rule is once a day for a week., once a month for a year. Once a year after that

I used it less than that though and haven't bothered for at least 2 years now

Agreed, absolutely. After using all sorts of saddles over the years, I got a new B17 which I treated for a few days before using with Proofide -comfortable from the start. I was amazed as the last Brooks I had 30 odd years ago never really broke in properly. As a result of this success I bought a slightly used s/h B17 on eBay for my other bike, treated it the same way and have again found it very comfortable.

One other big advantage I find is that the saddles cause less friction as you are pedalling than the ones with suede-type covering.

I have one on my Surly Long Haul Trucker which is my touring bike. It has seen duty on a 3,000 km tour into the outback (read around 1,000 + km of dirt roads) plus some shorter rides.

Works for me, might not work for you :) Would I buy another one? No, I would get a B17 instead simply because even though I love riding dirt roads and over here that often means kilometres of corrugated roads I really cannot feel the benefit of the springs over a standard B17 at least on the Surly.

Andrew
