This article on BikeRadar suggests that low cadence (50rpm) leads to more stamina and not just because people are tired but then it says that 80-90rpm is the least stressful on muscles, I don't know if it makes sense or not but some may find it helpful.
I'm doubting the authors technical understanding with this part:
At 200 Watts (around 20mph) if you spin 100rpm your strain works out at just two Watts per rev, whereas at 60rpm your strain is over three Watts per rev.
The numer of watts would be 200 no matter what the cadence, the number of Joules per revolution would change but not the number of Watts. Is the whole article patched together rubbish?

I think they could be confusing power watts with consumption watts, an odd thing to do when discussing unpowered cycling though

The article seems to largely make sense. Stress produced at lower rates over longer periods does build strength and muscle mass which can be interpreted as a fitness gain, so lower cadences help in that respect. But of course, those lower rates produce more joint damage as well as muscle stress, so in the interest of lifelong health some lower fitness for the average person can be preferable.
