Can anyone recommend a pedal?

My pedals are making horrible graty noises and I think they need replacing. What do you recommend? I'm not after anything fancy. No clips, straps etc, just a normal flat pedal which works smootly, has good grip in the wet, doesn't cost too much and is reliable in all weather for daily commuting. Any ideas?

Best bet, at a guess, would be to go to Halfords and LBS's and see what's out there that you like the look of. I've still got the stock pedals on my Wisper.

have the advantage that you can unscrew the little 'pins' and replace them with taller, sharper pins (called 'Terror Pins')

You only need one set of replacement pins for the pair of pedals - you do one in each corner.

The effect is that if you're wearing trainer-type shoes, they really grip like crap to a blanket. I have a plastic foot which has a tendency to point outwards if you let it, but if I press it onto these re-pinned pedals, it stays put for most of the time. Handy in wet conditions where your sole might slip a bit.

That means I had a bit of good luck when I ordered my pedals as I didn't know about that!

More by luck than judgement, the new pedals fit fine!

That's another source of creaks and grindy noises eliminated. Now there are just one or two rattles when I hit a bump which I think are just cables and things knocking against each other.

Most modern adult push bikes and e-bikes based on them have 9/16" threads these days.

its mostly BMXs and some very old designs of adult bikes with the 1/2" threads...
