I have a BH Neo Cross 36v bike which has a very noisy power supply. But my wife's Motus has not only a more powerful, 4a, unit but is completely silent. Checking the o/p terminals of it doesn't tell me anything, so, before I open it up, has anyone been inside one of these things and could please tell me whether its a simple 2 wire supply or is something much more complex?

.. by power supply I am assuming you mean the thing that plugs into the wall in order to supply current to the battery box.
The Bosch one has a number of additional circuits in it in order to communicate with the rest of the bike. Other power supplies don't have these. You will presumably have noticed that there is no voltage present on the inside of the power supply. One of the roles of the additional circuits is to check whether there is a legitimate battery present then to switch on the charging current.
So no not a good idea to use it on a non Bosch battery.
If your other charger is noisy, it probably contains a fan.

Thank you! Seems not worth the trouble. Extraordinary how some ebike manufacturers, whether intentionally or not, prevent their customers reasonably wishing to make their lives more convenient. I read somewhere that Bosch were able to retrieve from thier battery the number of times it had been charged. In 60 years of experiencing such thought processes they're almost always futile.

I'm going to change the fan. I'm not the only one who finds the racket it makes annoying and some who have changed it report that helps.

The Bosch people would probably say that they have your interests at heart, safer etc.Almost every device with an external charger has a note saying use only the supplied charger . The only exception is was the mobile phone chargers and that needed a EU directive...
