Can someone explain the Bosch system?

Most people rate the Bosch system highly, but I'm baffled by the assistance levels.

The linked document gives a table showing three levels and four modes, giving a choice of 12 settings.

As an example, Speed 1, Tour 2, and Eco 3 are all within a few percent assistance-wise on the table, but presumably are not so similar on the road.

The Bosch system has torque, speed and cadence sensors, so there's plenty of info going in.

I'm guessing assistance is delivered in a different way in Eco, Tour, Sport and Speed.

I might be buying a Bosch bike, so any help appreciated.

Hi
You are referring to 2012 system which has since been simplified. It is best to think of the 2012 system as having 12 different leves of assistance each one relates to the percantage of effort put in. See link to manual below, page 28 shows what percentage each leve refers to. Hope this helps.

Alternatively you might find the 2013 Bosch powered bikes better. These have less levels, improved display and controls near your left hand so you can easily move up and down the levels. It also has a button which you press and the bike accelerates up to 6km, ideal for getting away at the traffic lights. I mentioned this info on a previous thread but think it is important to consider whether you would prefer the 2013 version rather than 2012.

Thanks.

Fewer levels sounds good, as does a thumb control for the main functions and start assist, which removes most of the need for a throttle.
