Cateye computers - easy to fit?

After checking on Google to see how far I'd ridden on this battery, found to my amazement that where I thought I'd done 2 or 3 miles, in fact it was 6 or 7, so I think a computer would be useful.

Is the Cateye (recommended elsewhere on this forum) easy to fit? And if I can push to the wireless version, is that easier to fit than the wired?

Cateye 5 and 8 models are easy to fit, the instructions a bit messy, but as long as you choose miles over kilometres at the outset before setting anything else, nothing to trip one up.

I prefer the wired ones since wireless ones can suffer inteference, both from external sources like transmitter masts and from e-bike electrics. Ths can lead to seeing you're doing 57 mph uphill etc, great for the ego but not much practical use since the odometer also wrongly registers then.

Thanks flecc. Your advice has just saved me about twenty quid, apart from anything else...

I have the Cateye Strada wireless on my Pro Connect and found it excellent. I particularly like it's ease of use. My previous one was baffling to use but the Strada is very simple and intuitive.:)

I have a Strada wireless, too, and found it excellent.

I had a wired one on the trike and whatever the ride when I looked at maximum speed it would be in the area of 115 mph, no wonder my legs hurt

I think that was an Enduro 8. I had a similar problem with a previous Cateye wired one. I think there is occasional contact bounce in the reed switch and the computer counts that and gives a ludicrous speed. Walking it made it worse, I was walking at 80+ mph

Had a non-namer wireless on my PowaByke when I had it and with a front wheel mounted motor (brushed) it went barking just like Flecc said. Not had a problem with the Cateye on the Wisper since the controller and motor are a long way from it.

I use my Garmin Edge 605 exclusively on the trike now.

Oh dear, this is gonna smart.

Well, having sung the virtues of the Strada wireless my one died today (and just out of warranty, too).

I only changed the batteries two weeks ago.

This morning it decided, during my commute, to totally reset itself. So, I got to work and set it all up again. On the way home I pressed it to get a time reading and it wouldn't do it. It refused to go through the modes.

At home I did a reset and it let me do all the settings again but once set the mode button once again refused to play ball :(

Recovered the batteries and popped it in the bin.

It gets worse. The day before the Enduro on the trike also played up. I couldn't do a thing with it. The screen would throw up random flickering characters and up on doing a full reset and setting it back up on a press of the mode button it went barking again. No water in them, there's been no rain during my recent rides. Took the battery out and popped that one in the bin. Now I have two in the bin (well, one is probably at the tip by now).

I'm not buying another. I'll flip my Garmin Edge between SB and Prowler. It came with two mounts for two bikes :D
