I was so pleased with my Rocky Mountain 2wd that I thought I'd do the same to my Giant. The RM has 201rpm Q100 motors, which are great ffor off-road but no good for racing the lycras, so this time I used 328rpm ones that have a no-load speed of 30mph.
I had to make another double throttle. This time I pulled the LED board and unsoldered the switch and used the three wires for the extra hall sensor, so that I only had one cable coming out of the throttle.
The rest was very straight-forward as it had a front motor before, so I alread had torque arms. The kits came from Greenbikekit, and the spokes were tight enough and the rims central to the bike, which saved loads of time. I have the pedal sensor and cruise control on the rear motor and the throttle works both motors.
I've still got some very minor finishing to do, but I've managed about 10 miles of test riding. As you can imagine, range is not going to be a strong point, but the 20aH 36v Ping battery helps. When you pull away, you see about 1500w on the meter, which I think is over-reading because the twin controllers are only 15amps each, so that should be 1200W max. The motors are totally smooth and quiet. IAccelleration isn't fierce like the bigger motor I had before, but it's so smooth and quiet, it's deceiving. It does about 25mph on the flat without pedalling. Hill-climbing is pretty good too. On ahill that with my 250w bafang uused to have me pedalling hard in first gear, it flew up at 15mph without pedalling. The speed is really deceiving because of the smoothness and quietness of the motors. You can't hear anything at 20mph - totally silent!
