A couple of months ago I took my bike back to the dealers where I bought it to have a problem with battery power indicator not working and asked them to fix a clicking in the crank. They changed the LED indicator and tightened up the bottom crank and all was well. However the clicking has started again and I rang them up and they said bring the bike in and leave it for a week as it probably has a faulty crank and they will need to order one up. Now I don't mind doing this but it is a 100 mile round trip in the Land Rover whereas I could take it to my local bike shop 8 miles away and get them to fix it but how do think the guarantee would stand? My point is that it's not an electric bike problem, just a general bike problem and as such any bike shop is capable of doing it. I realise Falcon/Claud Butler have specific dealers so I don't hold out too much hope of them agreeing to it, but I just wondered how flexible other suppliers were in these situations especially as electric bike dealers are few and far between?

A Falcon Cycles dealer might be able to do it in agreement with Falcon, but I doubt an independent will attempt to fix it under warranty. I think best speak to Falcon first and see how they feel about reimbursing a local dealer for the job.

Some e-bike companies are very good in this respect, for example 50cycles arrange for local dealers to help at times like this and Wisper are very good at getting these jobs done by their agents.

Thanks flecc for your words of wisdom. Do you know how to edit a title?
I'm afraid it's not possible to edit a title. Not to worry, I left a trail of defective titles long ago and so have many others! These days I type the thread title first in the main box before the rest of the post, then copy and paste it over to the title box. Doubles the chances of spotting a clanger.

Our policy when a distant customer needs help is to phone around their local bike shops to establish best experience and willingness. We then ask the customer to take their bike to that shop and work with the shop to find the solution.

This works well for us and introduces our bikes to new dealers. It also demonstrates our support during an issue and gives us the opportunity to impress.

Hi DHJ

I would simply ask your supplier.

In this instance where it seems to be a pure bicycle mechanical fault I would imagine your supplier would bend the rules and let you take it to a local bike shop, we certainly would if you were a long way from your nearest dealer.

All the best

The crank on my last bike clicked quite loudly for 2000 miles. I changed the BB spindle/bearing assy twice. I had the pedals off and checked them, but I couldn't find a cause. As it didn't get any worse, I left it as it was, and it's still the same today.
