I have been looking for a new ebike to replace my old Carrera Crossfire-E and I have seen two ebikes that have caught my eye but I don’t know which is better.
I have a choice between the Cube Reaction Hybrid Pro 500 at my local electric bike shop and the Giant Fathom E+ 2 which I have seen in another local bike shop.

The Cube is £2050 and the Giant is £2199 but the guy told me he would price match the Giant Fathom with the Cube Reaction Pro. Which bike is better and most recommended? Please advise

I don't know what frame size you need or how much the larger battery matters, but there is a 2018 Cube Reaction Hybrid Pro 400 ex display for just £1385 here
https://www.evanscycles.com/cube-reaction-hybrid-pro-400-2018-electric-mountain-bike-17-inch-ex-demo-EV364373

It should have full Bosch warranty on the motor and battery. Worthing checking with the store or on webchat.

I have just bought an ex demo 2018 Cube Reaction Hybrid Race 500 from them. I'm still waiting to collect it as they are getting the Purion display fixed under warranty (it had some dead pixels). It wasn't as cheap as the one above but was a very good price.

You may even be able to trade in any old bike for another £100 off.

Thanks for the replies.

I am 6ft 1 and I weight around 280lbs so I need a Large frame so the bike in the link is too small. I am looking for a 500wh battery which both ebike have.

The problem with the Cube Reaction Pro (that is in stock at my local electric bike shop) is that they only have a frame size 18 which is a bit small for me. Even though I am 6ft 1 they told me an 18 frame would be fine for me if I put the seat up. I took a demo ride of the bike but found my legs a bit long for the peddling even with the seat up. The Giant Fathom E+ 2 in the other bike shop isn’t available for demoing yet but if I’m interested they can order me one with a large size 20 frame.

Thanks for the replies.

So out of the two ebikes I mentioned (the Giant and Cube) the Cube Reaction Hybrid Pro is the recommended ebike to buy with a large 20inch frame?

Its a major financial purchase and it has to fit and feel right,so I would always recommend trying it first. Even a comparable Cube model in 19 inch.

Artmuzz,
Apart from getting the correct size on either bike, which of the two bike shops is likely to give you the better service/support in the future?

I don’t really know which bike shop would give me better service and support because I’ve never bought from those shops before. The bike shop which has the Giant Fathom told me that they would bring the price down from £2199 to £2050 to price match the price of the Cube in the other bike shop.

I went to yet another bike shop and they have an ebike that has caught my eye too. It’s a Specialised Turbo Levo 29 but it is £50 more and only has a 400wh battery but the sales person there told me that they can swap out the 400wh battery for a 500wh battery and it won’t cost me more money.

So in a nutshell one bike shop has a Cube Reaction Hybrid Pro 500 for £2200 but they said they would reduce the price to £2050 if I buy the bike outright and add mudguards free of charge. However I’m having a problem convincing them that I need at least a 20inch frame.

The other bike shop has the Giant Fathom E+ 2 but they don’t have any on display but they are in stock. They said that if I’m interested they can order one in and reduce the price from £2199 to 2050 to price match the Cube Reaction in the other shop.

The last shop I visited has the Specialised Turbo Levo 29 at £2250 and they will swap out the 400wh battery for the 500wh battery with no extra cost.

I am really finding hard deciding which ebike to buy.

ppl have had problems with Specialised and getting problems fixed and taken weeks to sort out.

giant has there own system tho they use the Yamaha motors and there own displays ect so again if you get a problem might take longer to sort out.

So out of the three ebikes (Cube, Giant and Specialized) this forum recommends I buy the Cube Reaction Hybrid Pro 500 with a size 19 frame because I am 6ft 1 tall.

I applied for the governments Energy Saving Trust transport loan to buy this ebike but I think I’ve been turned down because I’ve not heard back from them in over 2 weeks. I don’t understand why I’ve been turned down because I’ve never been in debt and I am always careful with money.

Just a comment from a newbie in the board: I was looking for a Cube model as well until I learned that Cube has weight limitation at 125kg (which INCLUDES the bike itself). So, if you are around 280lbs plus bike (plus equipment eventually), you are far above 125kg (=275lbs).
This was one of the main reasons I was looking for an alternative and have chosen Giant. Those bikes are up to 150kg total system weight (and I am pretty sure there is some safety buffer of min. 10% on top). And I am very happy with my Fathom E+ 2 Pro (my height is 6ft2 @ 225lbs). XL frame size.

Thanks for the advise. My weight was one of the major concerns I had when deciding to buy a new ebike because the I keep on breaking spokes on the rear wheel of my Carrera Crossfire E and was told it’s due to my weight and I wear a backpack when cycling.

The sales staff at my local electric bike store told me that the Cube Reaction Hybrid Pro will take my weight of 20 stone no problem and he also said that the bike is also designed for people up to 24 stone. However it’s good to get confirmation that this isn’t the case.

I am currently on a strict diet so maybe it would be best if I wait until I am down to my ideal weight before getting the Cube. I have lost a few pounds in weight so far. However, I really like the look of the Giant Fathom E+ 2 and it’s good to hear that that ebike will be fine for my weight which is 20 stone.

The Cube will be fine for your weight, it's as strong as any other bike.

A crank drive will be good because you will less likely to break spokes than on a hub drive like your Carrera.

The Cube shop may be trying to tuck you into a stock model, but you really shouldn't have to convince them to sell you the size of bike you want.

Some people your height might be happy with a 19", but I can understand you might find it too small and the shop should understand as well.

The Cube might withstand or might not as other bikes. They might have some safety buffer or not. I am just referring to the Cube Homepage, FAQs and then you will find "Weight_Limits_MY2019.pdf".
I have learned not to trust bike dealers when it comes to weight limitations as everyone just tries to sell his brand he is offering in the store. You can ask three different Cube dealers on weight limitations and you will get five different answers ;). Same with other brand dealers I guess. However, Cube or Giant or other brands have it stated in written form somewhere on their homepage and Cube simply says 125kg for the Reaction Hybrid, nothing more, nothing less.
