What advantage does it offer over current deraileur syatems?
They take seconds to remove and install, QR's are simple, reliable and light.

Advantage would be cleaner puncture repair because you don't have to handle the chain, deraileur or cassette.

Running winter tyres/wheels would be simpler.

Neither of which is earth shattering, but in terms of innovations which we will never see again, I think this one is better than most.

Setup correctly you can remove and refit a wheel without touching any of them, just sit the wheel in with the chain lined up with the correct sprocket.
The trike I used on the trainer used to have the wheel swapped a few time a week, from a 26 (on road) to 700c (on trainer), never got dirty and never had to adjust the shifting.
Worst case you pull on the frame of the lower deraileur to get clearance, no mess.
