Thanks for the link and advice.

I'm a bit lost with all the parts for sale and i'm not sure which one would be the most relevant choice?

Could you point out to the exact one that would work?

Sorry I'm newbie in headset and headtube
Thank you

I'm sure that one would work, providing you need at least 30mm of spacer. It wouldn't work if you wanted to put your old fork back. You can always add more spacers but it's difficult to take them away if they're built into the headset.

I think the one I removed was like this one, which has the one piece plastic top cap. The one I replaced it with is this one, which has a separate metal compression ring.

It's up to you - they'd both work. I think the one from C H White would be cheaper as hollandbikeshop charge 9.95Euro for delivery and add vat. I only got mine from them as it was an add on to another order.

You don't need any additional bearings. A pair of the integrated bearings are part of the headset.

If you've got the top cap, top cap bolt, and anchor nut from your new fork then the only extra parts you'll need are the correct height of spacers. You can measure this by putting the fork through the head-tube, put on the plastic top cap, then slide the stem down on top of the top cap. The total height of spacers required is a bit more than the distance from the top of the stem to the top of the steerer tube.

This video explains how the headset works, and why you need the spacers.

Thanks the video is really helpful. It does seem that my current bearings do not fit the crown race I'm having:

So it makes sense to get a whole new headset. I'm thinking to get the same as your one because it must be better I suppose?

How would I know the installation order once received? I don't even know between the 2 crown race on my picture which one is on top and which one on the bottom.

Is there an installation diagram somewhere?

Thank you

The blog link guide in Trex's post is very useful but in it he makes the same mistake as you did, in that he dismantled the integrated bearings. This isn't necessary as he could have removed them without taking them apart. Of course in his case it didn't really matter because he's replacing them anyway, but if you want to re-use them you've got to re-build them, which is rather fiddly.

I replaced my complete headset because I'd bought the bike s/h and found the bottom bearing was completely shot, and the bottom race looked rather worn as well. Plus the cost of the complete headset is not much more than just the integrated bearings.

I'm not sure if you dismantled just the bottom bearing or both on yours, but you'll need 3mm balls to rebuild them. You won't know how they are until you've tried it.

If you wanted to upgrade the headset the LitePro Dahon one shown in the blog link seems to be available on e-bay (in red). It uses a separate bearing cup and sealed bearing, which should make future bearing replacement rather easier. Installing the cups without the right tool may be tricky though. It seems similar to this one, but cheaper.
