Hi Davanti,

When I did the 300 miles servicing, it was over in 15 minutes: They checked the spoke, adjusted the brakes, tidy up bit a little and I went home with the bike.

Hope it helps a little bit!

Bike shops are a source of puzzlement to me. I generally do my own servicing and repairs. I only took a bike to a shop once in my life. The bottom bracket bearings were worn out, and at the time I was too ill to do it myself. They said it would take a week, and it took a month. Often they take on too much work, and a weeks backlog becomes the norm. This is very bad news for the customer who relies on his bike to commute. There is a lot to be said for supporting your local bike repair man. He will have much lower overheads, and will be able to charge you less, and still make a good profit. In this business as in all others, success comes from a "Can Do" attitude. I speak from experience. I started a successful Washing Machine Repair business, in the face of stiff local competition. My motto was "We never close". I would do repairs evenings and weekends, when no one else would .

In my experience Neptune your business model is the only one that works, but can only be sustained if you are genuinely interested in your customers' issues.

Hi all,

I am a new member here and this is my first post so please forgive me if I appear naive!

I answer the phone calls at Woosh Bikes and sometimes come across customers who don't feel happy about looking after their own bike... a bit like davanti here really.

I'd like to reassure davanti just as much as anyone considering buying a bike over the internet where there may be no local dealer network for servicing.
Most repairs needed are not to do with the electrics but are just mechanical issues such as tightening spokes and adjusting brake pads.
Maybe some of the more experienced members here would be willing to assist users without experience, perhaps for the price of a good bottle of wine? More users would then feel less worried about looking after their bikes. Just a thought.

I have the same problem. The nearest Wisper dealer to Sheffield is in Garforth, a small town to the east of Leeds, it is two train journeys just to get there. So I took it to a bike shop just down the road. They charged me £50 plus something for new brake cables, which I suspect were unnecessary, I had them pay particular attention to the spokes on the back wheel.

Karl.
I thought The Edinburgh cycle Centre on Broadfield road were official Wisper Centre for Sheffield

Hi Fidok

Yes they are we do also have a dealer in Garforth as it is over 10 miles away from Sheffield and we would like to have dealers eventually all over the country within a 8 mile ride away from most of the population.

All the best

Hi Hatti, not naive at all, and welcome to the Forum.

What you describe of course has a lot of merrit, however in our experience over the last few years if anyone is thinking about buying an electric bike and peace of mind is important. It is far better to purchase one from a dealer who is close enough to sort out any problems you may have with the bike, mechanical or electrical. Most bike shops simply will not touch the electronics and if they do it is often worse than if they had left well alone!

All the best

Hi Hatti,

Welcome to the forum and oh no....I dont think you sound naive :)

Regardless though, it is still fairly risky buying over the internet.....especially if you havent tried the bike first, which is VERY important.

I think you will find that on this forum the experienced members are very very willing to help all members needing it, without the thought of a bottle of wine changing hands......just from sheer good will.

Not that I personally have any objections to any potential bottles of Rose' that anyone would care to send my way LOLOL :D

Lynda :)

Hi Karl how old was your bike when the brake cables were changed? For the last 18 months we have upgraded to extremely good cables to insure brakes work well at all times, they really should not need changing for many 1000's of miles. Was this another Wisper dealer?
Hello David,
No, this was my local cycle shop, Langsett Cycles, they are not a Wisper dealer. I was surprised he did it, but I had said I thought the brakes were a bit soft, this may of been because of wear on the brakes rather than problems with any cables. He wasn't around to ask when I went to collect the bike.

I bought my Wisper 905SEL in August last year, the service was carried out 6-7 months later. The only recurring problem I have with the brakes is on the front, the inside spacer adjustment keeps coming undone, and I have to tighten it up again regularly with an allen key, a blob of nut lock has slowed down its undoing.

Karl.

May be this bike is a candidate for a Wisper service?

No longer deflated ... re-inflated!

Hi Davanti, I am absolutely "gob smacked" at your report. To read that you have been told that you can't simply drop off your bike for a couple of hours is most disturbing. Actually it seems incredible. Surely the dealer must be able to keep a diary? If you would like me to become involved I would be please to do so. If you would like to let me know who the dealer is here or PM me I will get onto it.

All the best

David
Thank you David ... Just had a call from the dealer; seems like they have found the diary! My wonderful Wisper 905sel is now booked in for its first service at a pre-arranged slot next week ... grateful for your intervention!

Best Wishes

Don :D

Hi Karl, there seems to be an issue, have you spoken to your supplier? I am sure they will be able to resolve the issue for you.

Best regards

Excellent news Don,

That particular dealer is one of our best and I was pretty certain there was a mix up in communications somewhere along the line. I am delighted it has been resolved to your satisfaction. There is now a system in place so people who have bought bikes from them get top priority and small jobs like this can be done whilst a customer waits.

Have a great weekend,

Best regards

David

I've never had a problem with Wisper brake cable themselves but I have had a problem with the Shimano disk calipers cutting through them so they need replacing.
There seems to be a bit of a design flaw that allows the brakes to be set up in such a way that the end of the cable gets bent repeatedly until it work hardens and snaps. As brake cable inners are cheap I remember to change them every year as this kind of stress is hard to see.
