Hi

I have just become the owner of a 1000w rear wheel and am a little confused on what does what with the wiring there is a 5 pin plug with thin wire and 2 thicker wires which I assume are the main voltage and the others throttle and something else its a brushless and is a golden motor not sure of voltage 48? I know they are non road use are there any probs with these motors info etc.
many thanks

Fatts-
potential outlaws are not welcome on this forum ! Your totaly illegal speed beast will only serve to vilify and ban us all. Imagine how your recklessness is affecting the minds of the young about you-such wanton irresponsibility will not be tolerated.I feel your best course of action would be to turn the devilish
motor over to myself-in order for it to be disposed of in the correct manner.
By the way-do you wear a helmet ????

Sir,

I have only just been given this motor and I already feel like a leper for owning it. I am now spurned by civilzation and even my voices have stopped talking to me. You may ask what I may do with this contraption well once I have the information required and it is up and running I intend to give it to my 3 and 5 yr old grandchildren to play with unsupervised.

So Sir I am sorry but you may not have it!

Yours faithfully

Do you have the controller box with it, and are those five thin wires coming from that box, and not the wheel motor?

The 5 wires are hull wires and there should be 3 thicker wires yellow green blue phase wires coming from the hub, these all need to be attached to a brussless controller that is rated at the same voltage as the motor and battery ie 24v 36v 48 72v. the controller is the brain of an ebike, the throttle, brake cuttouts, motor, battery, ect all go to the controller.
You will need a min of
one motor
one brussless controller
one hall throttle
one battery
one touque arme
and a strong bike.

Yes, as aaannndddyyy says. As I suspected, the motor appears to be a thick phase wire missing, possibly ripped out, so no good as it stands.

Probably best written off, since to carry out the difficult internal repair of replacing the missing wire and buy everything to get it going would make a replacement kit worth buying.

It appears
I miscounted the wires I have the 3 phase wires as stated by andy and 5 thin wires blue, black, red, green and white or yellow depends on how you look at it looks more off white than yellow.
So I have all the rest except 48v controller I assume wattage has to be same as wheel and a throttle for a brushless motor.
Shame really as have 2 throttles for a brushed motor.

Could anyone tell me the reason there is more wiring is it due to being brushless as I had hardly any when I rewired and put in a different controller replacing the older tga type and new throttle. Any good reading material out there so I dont have to keep asking on the forum?
many thanks

More wires since the brushless ones need the controler to be actually a part of the motor since it's the controller that takes the place of the commutator and brushes that distribute the current to the phases in turn as the motor rotates.

Within the motor there are three transistor-like sensors (Hall sensors) which sense the magnet positions by their magnetic fields and feed those back to the controller. According to those positions the controller sends the right pulses at the right time to the three phases to run it forward in the right direction and maintain the power at an optimum which is better than a brush motor could achieve.

The three thick wires carry the drive current for the three phases of course, the five thin wires carry the information from the three Hall sensors and their operating current and negative return. This stepping animation on my website may help to explain the working.

As you say, it's the controller you need now, plus a throttle which is a cheap item anyway.

Ask as much as you need, it's what the forum is for and there are always members happy to respond whenever possible.

Hi Fleec
thank you very much for the info I have a small knowledge of electrics (dangerous) from wiring up my old BSA,s and looking at my sons more modern Derbi and having to test the hall effect somehing with a multi meter to get the reading or not as the case was and replacing bits. I just dont have my head around this stuff yet. Its not as young as it once was.I am also trying to do solar pwer which is a new one on me too so I have just got my head around the brushed system but not the brushless any good books you can think of out there. When I have the time I shall read this slowly and see whats what.
Also a big thanks to aaannndddyyy I now have a better if not quite there yet understanding of the system.
Many thanks for your time and help its appreciated
