DIY components / kits

During my searches of the internet I came accross a UK supplier of component parts that you could "pick & mix" it looked like it had what I needed for a DIY set up ie choose front or rear wheel, pick the controller, thumb throttle or twist grip, battery, rack, pedelec sensor etc.
Blow me down but now as much as I trawl I can not re-find them !
Any suggestions (if you do not want every one else to know just send a private e-mail) ?
Thanks

Thanks, the German supplier is on holiday for the next couple of weeks so was trying to get a UK equivalent comparason in parallel.
The complete kits may well be what I end up with but I feel I may end up with a few too many compromises as to what I really want.
A "pick and mix" from one supplier should get me a balanced / reliable drive train and control system (putting it together does not put me off at all).
There will hopefully be the back-up of a supplier that knows the complete system.

When I purchased my first kit off Alien, I have to say their backup support was excellent.

Most other kit options seem to entail buying from overseas with possible support/returns challenges.

Definatley worth giving Alien a call and having a chat.

Currently on the "pre-boxed kit" list are Alien and Sunlova but both seem to be front wheel drive plus my donor bike has a twist grip gear change system so would ideally want a thumb throttle, also want a lockable battery rack at the back (to be hidden under panniers).

Franks supply in Germany seems to have most of what I want but I'd need battery / holder and have the wheel (700C) built up myself, however this is not a major hassle.

Making up a few brackets and a wiring loom would be so much easier than the work I have put into motorcycles over the years.

Frank is based in China but his email communication is first class, I bought my bits from him and got the wheel made up by SJS, another set of guys who offer first class service....

Don't forget his prices, Alien has put theirs up by £150 in the last month for kits!
Gosh

I just checked their web site. I purchased my 36v kit late last year for around £399. This leccy bike stuff is getting expensive.

Expensive conversion kits

Just taken delivery of 2 kits from Sunlova...after having done a massive amount of research! We're taking them on holiday to France in 2 weeks in our motorhome so since there's a significant amount of interest, I'll report and review any downsides!!

We were initially going for the Alien kits but the price hike was a key factor!

BTW my other half is a mechanic so I'm hoping the fitting will be problem free. Sunlova have been very helpful with advice and we got a good discount for buying 2 kits.....Watch this space!!

Welcome to the forum roverslass.

I am sure everyone would appreciate feedback on these kits. Looking at their web site they look like quite good value.

I notice they only provide a 6 month warranty though. I would have expected a 12 month one minimum.

The Sunlova is top of the list at the moment but it only has one level of assist ie full !
What effect does this have on the practical use ie full kick of power when you start off, how do you ride slowly with the assistance in this mode ? Or is it something you just get used to ?

Does anyone know of a way of adjusting this to get a proportional assist ie the faster you go the more power you get (maybe swap controllers at a later date) ?

Also there is a thumb throttle on the way too (good for me as I have twist grip gear selector).

You may have noticed that I've not ridden a pedalec in before !

They are also twice the price of Alien or Sunlova, unfortunately I can not justify that at the moment (thats the start of the compromising road).

It's worth noting that kits with a switchable 'assist' are really only switchable assist up to a set speed, IE the switch won't control power delivery from the motor but only the motor RPM at which the power is rolled off. On my kit from Frank that works out as 11, 17 and 22 mph

With the single mode controllers I find the best way to manage the power when starting off is to use a small amount of throttle as this will (should do!) override the Pedelec sensor and help with a smoother get away.

The only way to get a true proportional assist is to go for a Panasonic / Yamaha system AFAIK.....

I guess I'm getting a bit ahead of myself worrying over the potential problems - I should just get on with it and "find my own style" !

The Sunlova kits that use the 8fun motor are also disc compatible for a front disc
