Do all batteries need conditioning?

I have a NI-MH battery and I had to condition it initially by running the battery down and charging for 5 hours. I did this three times. Every 50 cycles I do it again. This time once.
Is this process particular for my battery type? Do other types need conditioning? i.e the battery on the Bosch, the Schwimm Tailwind, etc ...

Most manufacturers do recommend one or two full charge discharge cycles to start with on lithium batteries. The two reasons are to ensure full equalisation of the cell charge content and, in the case where the battery has an integral meter, setting the zero point from which the meter registers to ensure the best accuracy.

I don't know for certain about the SCiB battery on the Tailwind though, the manufacturers Toshiba are the experts on those, though it's probably the same as other lithium batteries.
