e-Bike Test Rides

This is a parallel thread to one on the Kalkhoff forum in which owners offer to give a demo ride to potential buyers.

I am located in Milton Keynes and I am happy to let seriously interested people test ride my Agattu at a mutually convenient time. No joyriders or under 21s please.

My Ezee Torq is also available should anyone should be similarly interested.

Maybe if more people made this offer, not just Kalkhoff owners, it might encourage potential e-bikers who live a long way from dealers to have a go and see what it is all about.

Obviously, some discretion is required before deciding to let a complete stranger ride off on your bike, so please take sensible precautions.

To date, I have had a visit from a very nice couple living local to me in Milton Keynes. They came to have a look at my Kalkhoff 2 weeks ago as they were interested in buying electric bikes to take along on when touring with their motorhome in Europe. After a brief ride on the Kalkhoff and my Ezee Torq, the Agattu was the favourite. I haven't heard if they have decided to buy yet.

Feel free to contact me if you would like to have a demo.

John

I've only ever had one problem with this idea....obesity!

Fair enough, the machines may well be designed to carry 110 Kgs, but I'd never allow somebody of that weight to ride one of my machines. I've even had furniture in my house reduced to matchwood by these leviathans. The cheeky blighter then tried to claim compensation!!

I'm not bothered about loosing a machine, as I would ride with them on another (faster) bike, any attempt to scarper would be scuttled with a swift sideways kick to the thigh sending them into the ditch. ( I learned this from da local youffs ).

With the proviso of say 85 Kgs maximum weight, I would be quite happy with the idea of test rides.

It's not just weight that could break the bike but also strength, you're probably better off with a 130Kg unfit person than an 85Kg keen cyclist. I'm not adverse to letting someone take it for a test ride but any faults can cost me a lot of trouble and money so I'd be very wary.
N.B. I'm quite confident I could break at least one of your bikes without deliberately trying to, the problem would also not appear until after I had given it back so you couldn't try and make me pay for the repair either.

The thread is about advocacy, any machine offered for test rides remains the property of the owner. The owner would have paid hard earned cash for the machine and therefore has a perfect right to establish rules, in Aldby's case...no under twenty-ones.

I'll take it John's post wasn't attacked for any other reason than the absence of any twenty year olds on the forum.

In view of the response to my own rules, I shall withdraw from any such advocacy role.

A very good day to you gentleman

It is of course up to the individual to decide if and who they allow to ride their bike.

What a way to go!
I think you'll find these bikes to be a lot sturdier than you think. Its all about the wheels you know. Frames these days are so well made its nigh on impossible to damage them with sheer weight. The wheels on my 57cm agattu are as true as the day it arrived and I am what you would term a laviathon.

Probably mostly true, but frame breakages are not unknown.

aaannndddyyy in this forum had his Sprint frame snap apart and another member has just posted on his Chopper (bike that is!) snapping in half.

Bob, very sorry if I upset you with my remark earlier - it was intended as a joke and I had absolutely no intention of belittling your offer of test rides on your bikes. Sorry :(

PS Flecc when did you take that pic of me on my bike?!

Woa Bob, sorry my comment was meant in jest! It did seem to sprout out a bit though... Naturally you can place any limits you like! It's your bike(s) after all.

That's very generous of you John. If I lived local I'd love to pop round for a chat about e-bikes and try your Agattu and Ezee Torq. You'd be most welcome to try mine as well except you've already owned one.
I'm hoping to meet some forum members at Presteigne this year and try out a few interesting bikes. I think I may have met some of you already. :)

I think everyone from the forum should wear a green tshirt with their pedelelcs name on it so we can all identify each other!:D

When i went to the New Milton show, I wore a "flecc" label which was a useful identifier for many. I met very many more people than I would otherwise have done.
