Thanks Flecc for all the info re batteries, Lion and NiHm, particularly re cold storage of Lion for any long periods of storage. My bike, battery and charger are kept in a newly build wooden shed, it has a kind of perspex type roof which lets in the light, but also the sun so it is quite warm. We do have ventilation panels in the sides to help air flow. It is, however, quite a warm shed. Will this be detrimental to the Lion battery, given that during the summer when it is hot, we shall be using the bikes regularly? I rather thought that warm conditions would help the battery !!

Thanks
Jeanette

No, the warm conditions won't hurt a battery is use at all Jeanette, and in fact they work at their optimum in fairly warm conditions, around 30 degrees C typically. It sounds like your shed will be ideal as you suspected.

In the winter's more extreme cold weather, if the bike is being used regularly it's a good idea to take the battery indoors between uses so the battery is warm when you want to use the bike. If the bike isn't being used much then, the cold in the shed will help the Li-ion last and have little effect on NiMh, but it will be a good idea to bring either type battery in several hours before a proposed use to warm it up in that infrequent use circumstance.
