Hi all. I'm looking for real world experiences of using e-cargo bikes for heavy loads. Reason I'm asking is that I own a soup business delivering wholesale soup in Edinburgh. Soup is heavy. Edinburgh is very hilly and the roads are a disaster. We started with a hand-built wooden trike but I think the roads destroyed it. The various connectors kept failing and trying to cycle 60kg+ of soup on a wooden trike up Edinburgh's hills is not much fun. (One lack of foresight is that our kitchen is at one of Edinburgh's lowest points so *everywhere* is uphill.)
At the moment we've press-ganged two Raleigh Velo xcites into action with y-frame trailers but the loads and roads are shaking them to pieces.
I know about all the different cargo bike makes out there but it's a significant investment and I wonder if *any* of them are really sturdy enough to be able to handle our needs. So what I'm looking for is anyone's actual experiences of heavy duty haulage on a regular basis. We are really trying to keep our deliveries by bike but it's getting harder and harder to justify the time and cost of keeping them on the road.
