Fat Tires

Hello all,

Has anyone experience of fitting Big Apple tyres to a Pro-Connect? I imagine it'd mean new mudguards. Are there any consequences in terms or range or top speed. I'm getting fed up with being shaken to pieces on the way to work - it can't be good for the bike either.

Cheers

Peter

I don't know anyone who has fitted Big Apples to a Pro Connect, but a very expensive addition or alternative for the front wheel which is very effective is the Pantour hub. One of these coupled with moderate section Big Apples would transform the Pro Connect and turn it into a much more comfortable bike.

The Pantour is one of those things that looks as though it shouldn't work well, but it's surprisingly good at getting rid of shocks. One of our members has one and rates it highly.

How ingenious is that! might be an idea for the wife's 705:)

A new hub seems a bit excessive, though I'll bear it in mind. Most of the shock seems to come through the rear wheel - I've even had pinch puntures because of it. The roads in London are terrible - particularly if you're away from the main routes.

Top speed will increase slightly and range will decrease slightly but I don't notice either difference myself.
Good luck, they do make a difference.

And the mudguards? I can't find any 700c mudguards on the web which would accommodate 2"+ tyres.
