Fat? Me? Oh OK then, but getting thinner day by day! :D

All Wisper bikes sold in Europe are now built to the same specification all with half throttle etc (brakes are reversed for UK). They all conform to EN15194 and are currently being tested by SGS in Shanghai, so within the next few weeks all bikes will carry the plate with motor details, manifacturer and certificate numbers that is often mentioned on the forum.

When you buy a Wisper the throttle is set to walk along mode which means just that, if you are pushing your bike up a steep hill and need assistance then there is just enough throttle available to help. It will also give a little assistance from start off. It is set in this way to comply with EN15194 as a safety feature that will stop the possibility of your Wisper taking off without a rider sitting firmly on the saddle. When the pedals are being turned you can use the throttle to determine the amount of assistance you require from the motor and is an alternative to setting the bike to medium or high assistance.

If you intend to take your Wisper out of Europe or use it off road only there is a simple way of re programming the bike to reinstate the full throttle and to derestrict the top speed. Reprogramming can be reversed if the bike is to be used on European roads again. I must emphasise that tampering with the bike in this way will render it illegal to use on the public highway in Europe.

Reprogramming your Wisper takes about 2 minutes to complete and can be undertaken by any Wisper retail or service centre free of charge. If your Wisper dealer has any problems please ask them to email or call Norman or Steve in service or of course me!

Best regards

David

can the units on those models with displays be changed between UK and Euro units (miles/km) (like most Japanese cycle computers) for those who decide to travel between the UK and EU or other fully metric countries?

Good point Eddie, the DfT have said that they will not be interested in bikes that have been purchased with UK specs before they align with the EN regs siting "grandfather rights" but I am not certain that UK bikes set up with a throttle would be legal in continental Europe. I will check it out.

All the best
