Flat tyre - help needed!

I just pumped up my friends tyre and soon afterwards the tyre let out all the air. It was very loud. Slime had been previously put in along with a thick rubber coating around the inside of the wheel.

The tyre did feel very hard prior and it was a struggle getting more air in but i persisted because the pressure gauge was showing 60 and with these 16" schwable tyres the advice was to inflate to 70psi.

Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause - could it be the result of too much air? If so, is it just the valve that needs replacing?

They take that pressure and more without problems normally.

If it went down with a bang, the tube might have been pinched under the tyre wall and blown out. When removed and inspected that will show a long split in the tube and it would need replacing. Another possibility is the valve stem blowing out from the tube rubber at the base, and wiggling that should show if that's so.

However, the first step is to take one side of the tyre off, remove the tube and try to put air into it to show the cause.
