Finding my (electric) wheels

My wife's Freego Light folding bike has developed a fault the pedals seem to want to turn and the bike lurches forward even when it is just being pushed but with power on. We took it to a bike repair shop who sepnt a long time looking at it but were not able to fix it. They changed the twist control on the handlerbars but the problem persisted. They suggested it may be the controller but it would be difficult to find. We are going to try and find another repairer locally but I would also appreciate and help and advice from the community.

many thanks

?? pedals moving on their own?? is the rear wheel rolling driving the chain and therefore the crank?? sounds like a fouled rear wheel freewheel mechanism??

Did you previously need to engage pedal assist intentionally and now find its on without selecting?

snap a pic or 2 of the display/handlebar unit.

One needs to know whether it is a mechanical issue causing the PAS to activate or if it is an electrical issue.

Mechanically one needs to inspect the bikes drive chain , is the free wheel gear cluster moving freely. Remove the chain to check also a stiff chain link could be at fault.
Are the chain wheel teeth worn and the chain snagging on the teeth also check the same for the rear gear cluster.
With the chain removed check the movement of the chain wheel, is it freeely turning .

Luching with power on is the PAS engaging ( if in any PAS mode above 0), If the PAS is in 0 mode then a wire short or PCB short is likely.
One needs to rule out any mechanical issue first before turning to fault finding the electrics.

One will need to be methodical so before thinking electrics , rule out any mechanical part of the drive train being at fault .
So chain off and check chain for any stiff links.
Rear gear cluster check it freewheels well and isn't sticking check teeth conditon for hooked worn teeth.
Same for front chain wheel.
Check bottom bracket /cranks freely rotate without any notchyness.

That's a very common problem that any competent bike shop should be able to idetify and fix. You haven't been maintaining your freewheel, so it's got dirt in and behind it, and the freewheel has become a bit sticky because of lack of lubrication. When you push the bike, the freewheel is not freewheeling. Instead, it turns the chain and pedals, which operates the pedal assist.

The solution is to clean the freewheel, particularly behind it, where all sorts of crap gets jammed. When that's done, lay the bike on its left side and drizzle some oil into the gap around the axle immediately behind the drop-out. Run the pedals backwards a few times, then add a bit more oil and repeat. that should sort it out.
