Giant LaFree; fork V-brake bosses: anyone used them?

Hello all,

Hope you enjoyed the BH weather?! (I got SOAKED while making an inadvised dash to the farm shop for some breakfast eggs ;-)

My query is simple enough - has anyone with a Giant LAFree installed some V-brakes on the fork bosses and ditched the roller brake hub? Does this work OK?

(my reason for the query ... well, the roller brakes have never impressed me. They're good enough for a rear brake, but mighty disappointing for a front. I'm about to replace the rear wheel - see earlier thread: still awaiting shift lever SL-8S20 delivery - and will use a roller brake on that. The front wheel will be replaced and while I'm at it I thought to ditch the roller hub and install something that works ... hence the query)

TIA

As long as the mount positions are right for the wheel size, go ahead. New V brakes don't come with the mounting posts and they are tricky to get hold of and vary according to brake make and model. These ebay ones are ok for most moderate price Shimano V brakes.
