Giving the motor what it wants

On the ebikes.ca simulator, I input the highest percentage hill I would need to climb, and also various other factors.
It calculated that the maximum current I would ever need to draw from the battery is just over 40 amps.
Obviously, the set-up will require a quality battery to provide this maximum current, using a controller capable of providing this also.

My question:

Is there any advantage in giving the motor the amps it wants in all situations, or is it best to keep at a slightly lower controller rating, with associated drop in overall performance?

Not really a motor will chew up any given wattage.
But the issue is the heat. The only advantage I can think of is the speed you'd go up said hill. This means less time pulling that high amperage.

But the problem is heat, every time you double the amperage, the heat is increased 4 times over.
The only difference being is that you'd spend less time doing that.

This could work well on short spurts. But if you had a huge long climb it could fry the motor. Keeping it low amperage would mean there is much less of a chance of destroying the motor.

40amp is alot of current at battery level. I've ran mine at a max of 30 which would club pretty much anything.

20amp will provide more than enough at cycling speeds to get up and given hill in a geared motor.

You only need more when pushing speed or huge loads.

Yes, 40 amps at 37 volts means a 100 kilo bike and rider climbing 1 in 5 at 12 mph at least, more if the rider chucks in his 300 watts as well.

30 amps should be plenty for an e-bike, especially if only legal speeds are wanted.

300 watts, blimey, I'll have to wear my blue lycra suit, red pants and cape for that
