Hi

I have just got myself a GoCycle G1, as it seems to be well superseded now, is there any information on self maintenance on the internal components, chain etc. I get the feeling it is a bit secret as I can’t find much on the web. I know the chain etc is sealed for life, but I think mine needs a good service which I am happy to have a go. Just looking for some pointers please. We don’t have a service centre within a 100 mile radius and the age of the machine and parts available seem a bit scarce.

If this is in the wrong section can someone please move it to where it should be.

Thanks

I've opened a G2, which is more or less the same. It's very straight forward to take the cover off the chain case. It was more than a year ago, so i can't remember how i did it, but it was easy enough to figure out. I remember that there was at least one screw that was either hidden or difficult to access. It was like one of those Chinese puzzles, with only one way to do it.

There's a tensioner on the chain. It could be that yours is stuck or needs adjusting. A G1 is pretty old by now, and I can imagine that the chain needs at least re-oiling.

I just remember too that the crank fixing was unconventional. It's logical, but there was something weird about it. I can also remember when I put it back together, there was a gap around it as if something was missing, but that's how it's supposed to be.

I found this manual, but it doesn't include how to open the chaincase. having looked at the pictures, I can remember the hidden screw. To access it, I had to rotate the chaincase around its pivot into a position where the screw became accessible.

Thanks for that, what are you oiling them with. I have found the Chinese puzzle screw. Now to work out the puzzle.

I didn't need to oil the one I did. It was fairly new and I had to replace the gear change servo, which is a standard R/C servo, like they use in R/C aeroplanes and cars. I think I'd be tempted to use a motorcycle chain lube aerosol because they have agents to make the grease stay in place.

Let us know what's causing your problem after you've opened the chain case. Some pictures would be good too.

To get at that screw, you have to unclip the rear suspension, then rotate the chain case right around its pivot to the one position where you can access it.
