Very clever and imaginative, if only they put such effort into their customer support and product quality.

Have you tried one yet john,or is it maybe the next possible bike.
No I haven't tried one of their motors Paul. From what I have read elsewhere there have been quite a few problems with reliability and customer support, so they are not for me unless some one can convince me otherwise.

I do love their gallery though and the sound track with a Lady Gaga backing track:cool:

Alien Ocean are UK agents for them if anyone is brave enough to give one a go............ON PRIVATE LAND! Electric Bicycles - Online Shop - Off Road Kits
It would be interesting to know if someone in the UK has tried them.
The Magic Pie kit is quite interesting, the version II looks more promising, however that won't arrive until 2012.
When it comes to kits, Bionx and Ezee seem the best choices. Both have proven reliability.

We've twice had members who've bought Goldenmotor kits and been unable to get them going, one through inadequate information on how to wire the forest of connections, and no support from Goldenmotor. The other through blowing his up in the attempt to get it going.

Not too surprising that no others have bought. If Alien handling them now can give the right technical support in English and do that all the time promptly, we may find the motors worthwhile. All in all though, I can't see they are any better from the cheap direct drive motors that are advertised on ebay regularly.

This installation guide looks fairly comprehensive to me and much better than many I have seen from other manufacturers http://www.goldenmotor.com/e-Bike-DIY/GoldenMotor%20Pro-Kit%20User%20Guide.pdf

Thare are also a few things some of us could learn or dispute from their Do's & Don'ts

Do's!

For any returns, replacement and repairs do contact TOM at zhourenli@goldenmotor.com

Do install your GM products as written in the installation guide that comes with your purchase.

Do make sure you have done "all" your screws, nuts and bolts up secure. Double check and tipple check. Regularly check you hub wheel nuts are tight and torque arm is secured.

Do make sure your connections are made properly and maybe secure them with some electrical tape. Refrain from unplugging and replugging the connections as much as practical. If you only connect them once and never disconnect again, the better.

Do install brake switches (safety). Never assume that this part is not needed. They are safety switches that bypass the throttle if it gets stuck at full speed.

Do set the controller software parameters within your BMS and motor limits.

Do install physical brakes properly before you ride.

Do install an additional torque arm to you axle and frame axle dropouts.

Set your regen so it has good regen resistance but not too much. A good guide would be to set it so it slows you down at the speed the motor accelerates. So if it takes 10 seconds to reach 28mph~45kph it should take you 10 seconds to slow down by using regen alone. << citation required.

Do check the ac voltage switch on your battery charger is set to your GPO (general purpose outlet) standards. EG 220v AC 50hz and 110v 60hz respectively.

Do check the polarity of any new charger plug and the battery charger input before the first charge. It is rare, but charger battery connection polarity could be wrong.

Do make sure your bike stand is reliable and strong enough for added weight as some of the kits do not take kindly to falling over, (HBS squished wires)

Do adjust the derailer so it can not scratch against the hub when pedal chain is on the largest cog.

Do pump tires up hard to avoid any dings in the alloy rims.

Do recharge bike as soon as you finish your ride, and leave the charger on the battery when finished charging to keep the battery at standby voltages..

Do keep the GM charger on the GM pack when the battery is not in use to keep the battery at standby voltages.

Do keep the charger on the battery in winter to keep the battery at standby voltages.

Do install the GM horn or have a bell to warn pedestrians you're approaching from behind them.

Do wear sun glasses by day or clear safety glasses at night or in rain, as flying bugs and rain drops can cause eye damage, sting or partially blind you at higher speeds and you will look and feel cool.

If you are not using your bicycle, Do disconnect the battery connector, Do charge the battery at least once every two months and more often in winter.

Do visit goldenmotor.com - Index regularly.

Don'ts!

Don't test you motor without it being properly installed on you bike. With wheel nuts undone or by holding the axel with your fingers,

Don't seal your GM products eg. Motor housing, battery housing, controller housing etc from the weather as you may seal humidity in and cause condensation.

Don't attempt to repair you GM products still under warranty without guidance of the chief technical officer TOM. zhourenli@goldenmotor.com

Don't overvolt your products or attempt to exceed you motor or batteries limitations.

Don't off the battery to the controller while the motor is in operation.

Don't recharge your GM battery on any other device than the GM charger supplied with your pack

Dont leave your GM pack in the hot sun for extended periods of time as this may drastically reduce the life of the cells.

Don't rely on regen brakes as the only source of braking.

If you have wire damage Don't switch bike on ever to test whether it still works. You may have to walk the bike home. Fix the damage wires properly before you switch the bike on again.

Don't expect regen or sensorless mode to work with the GM minimotor, these function can not work with freewheel gears.

Good to see they've bucked up their ideas in this area John, those two members were some while ago but one would have been helped by this. However they still need to have responsive support for the motors which arrive with consumers not working or failing early, which hopefully they have now.

In the past they merely suggested looking at their forum, which when I investigated it at the time I found to be completely dead with just some old unanswered queries.

It's difficult to keep track of the Chinese in these customer related areas. For a while in the early days Cyclone kits came with connector plugs, sockets and good instructions but after some changes came with connectors missing, loose wires and no instructions causing many problems. Last I heard they had addressed all that ok, but that sort of thing makes recommendation fraught and leads me to be cautious..

The good thing about going through Alien is a UK based company if things should go wrong.
