Hi everyone, pleased to be part of such a friendly community, full of worthy advice.

A bit about me, born and gred brummie, now living in the smog filled city of London, east london actually. I am 12 stone after a hearty meal, and have had asthma for 37 of my 40 years. My commute to work will be a 20 - 24 mile round trip, with 2 or 3 hills of varying gradients. I Plan to use my Electric Bike 3 times per week to begin with. Any other info just ask.....

Can you guys give me some valuable help please, as i have procrastinated for to long in the 'what bike' decision, I need to buy this week and start my health recovery

My needs are simple, I will be using the bikes assistance in the morning with about 40% throttle only, then after a hard days graft for the way home I will be be using throttle for 90% of the journey, if all this is possible.....
budget 500-1000 +/-

So according to good strong advice I need at least 2 years warranty on bike and battery, a 14ah unit, and a thousand pound plus. won't a 10ah unit do?

Ok so I have wittled down the field to the following:-

Tonaro: Patented crank drive system, 90n/mTorque and throttle only when required.

Wisper905 eco: Established, reliable the BMW of the group basically , although the model I am after will have the upgraded 14ah battery but the 905 eco has no suspension!

Woosh bike of southend on sea: £535 for a 36v 10ah machine, I just don't know

Juicy bikes: another 36v 14ah machine but for under a grand

not to mention the sub £800 quid group
ciphy bikes, pro-rider mobility and 8fun all the aforemention products have 36v 10ah batteries for the perfomance i require.

so you can see my dilemma, do I go with my heart and grab the Tonaro with it' power train, or should I be sensible a go wtih Wisper knowing that they hold there value or grab a £700 bargin and hope for the best

So please can you guys help am confused.com

Having test riden three of the Kudos bikes I recommend that you at least consider extending your list. I'm waiting for Dave to announce the availablility of the Tourer at £845 and I gather there is a discount of £100 until August.

The smog filled part of your posting gives rise to concern as I rode a motorcycle to London for 25 years and never considered it was contibuting to my asthma. Yet since I stopped about 9 years ago I've been virtually symptom free. All sorts of things cause asthma but you ought to consider not adding another.

I don't want to put you off cycling, quite the contrary, but maybe some kind of face mask is available with changable filters to keep the worst out?

Thanks for your concern regarding my asthma, I have thought about it and a face mask with filters are on my list, also the route i plan to take from home to work and back will consist of greenways and canal paths, doing my best to avoid the car fumes. I admit the Kudos people where forgotten in my list of hopefuls, but a look at their brochure style website and I cannot see much in the way of support, also the fact that all their bikes are only 36v 10ah, which may not be strong enough for my particular commute which will involve alot of throttle only riding. ooops my apologies I have just noticed the HERO 16ah at £1125, now where talking, but will it be false economy for me, the Wisper will last me at least 2 years, what are KUDOS bikes like any info, especially whats there warranty and support network like.............

Definitely take a test ride of your short-listed bikes and take a look at any BEBA registered manufacturer who will abide by an excellent code of practice.
A 24 mile daily round trip would suggest a 14AH battery, unless you can charge at work. The battery will last so much longer if you keep within 50% of its capacity. We have 14AH (40 miles+) and 16AH (50 miles+) versions of each bike in the Juicy Bike range available, but the 10AH version with an additional work-based charger (£29) may well be the most economic solution for you.
We have a test ride available near you - a willing customer who raves about his Juicy Sport 2011 and who lives near Alexander Palace - good for testing up some hills. (I love our passionate gang members!) We also have an Urban 20" owner in Crouch End, also willing to demonstrate her bike, and many other satisfied (but less willing) owners around your end of town.

Many thanks for your Input Bob, I would very much like a test ride, as i find it difficult to attend e bike shops, during office hours. It may seem that i should just get a 50cc moped, but I need the freedom and exercise you get from an electric bike, therefore can you give me an inclination of the range i can achieve using THROTTLE ONLY mode on your 10ah,14ah & 16ah bikes.

For our 26" bikes realistic expectations are 10AH: 20 Miles, 14AH: 28 Miles and 16AH: 35 Miles.

We base these distances on feedback from, amongst others, Police users who are maintaining daily shift records as part of a long-term (to date 20 month) test of our bikes.

On a hot day these distances can improve by 30% or more, but you should plan for a cold day into a strong headwind, or take into account your intentions for the bike: everyday, every weather, or only on sunny, summer days.

THe ranges you qouted are impressive if using throttle only. I plan to use the bike as a commuter any weather 3 days per week to start. Work permitting I would like to contact you regarding contact with a juicy bike owner in my neck of the woods please.
